Popular Post webfact Posted February 3, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2024 Police Major General Jaroonkiat Pankaew, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Anti Corruption Division, gave regular briefings to the press this week. On Friday, he confirmed the arrest of Mr Eakluck Wareechol or ‘Aek Paknam’, a pivotal figure in this expanding case. Last week’s arrest of Srisuwan Janya appeared to be an earthquake. However, as police dig their teeth into a widening and terrifying trail of corruption and extortion, it looks increasingly likely that last week was a tremor and the real shocks have yet to come. The case involving the dramatic arrest of activist Srisuwan Janya last week including two arrests at Government House, has this week continued to send ripples of trepidation across the political world in Thailand. Police are confident that they are now dealing with an extensive network working within the wider government itself which was systematically targeting civil servants and officials for extortion. A fourth arrest was made by police on Thursday and police have let it be known that at least two further arrests are already in the pipeline. Srisuwan, a well-known whistleblower was detained just hours before two associates of the United Thai Nation Party (UTN), were arrested on January 26th last. by James Morris and Son Nguyen Full story: Thai Examiner.com 2024-02-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Popular Post bamnutsak Posted February 3, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2024 Extortion? Within the Thai government? I'm shocked. Round up the usual brooms, and large size rug. 1 2

Popular Post dinsdale Posted February 3, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2024 Corrupt from the very top. Every Thai person knows this. Every Thai also knows that the elites are beyond legal consequences. 3 7 1 1
Foxx Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 From the linked article: "the top policeman leading the inquiry spoke of an evil incubus at the centre of the affair." Very odd choice of words. Does it imply that the man concerned rapes sleeping (possibly drugged?) women? If so, shouldn't he be arrested for that? Also, aren't all incubi inherently evil? 1 1
Popular Post NE1 Posted February 3, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2024 So more money will change hands and some lowly or about to retire geezer will be made the scapegoat and life trundles on as usual. 2 1

Translator's licence I'd say. The policeman obviously didn't use those words in English. I can't see anything in Thai news stories yet that would give this translation. Probably an odd translation of ยักษ์ or พ่อยักษ์ which he used a couple of days ago. 1
Popular Post ezzra Posted February 3, 2024 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2024 Its never boring reading the news articles in Thailand and you get a chuckle or two when you read that THE POLICE is incharge of investigating corruption, I mean really, THE POLICE to probe corruption? like the pun about the cat and the milk... 1 5 1
Callmeishmael Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 There are obvious limits to how far up the political hIerarchy one can go before being stopped in Thailand. Whoever the highest ranking fall-guy ends up being, there will almost certainly be someone higher ranking who will not be prosecuted. 1

You're thinking blackmail. Extortion is any threat of harm if you don't pay up (in some form or another). Even if you've done nothing wrong. 2 1 1 1
trainman34014 Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 And how many Politicians and Cohorts will get Jail time ? My guess would be...ZERO ! And another thing; this Cop who's leading the charge will be chopped off at the knees long before the investigation gets to anyone 'Important' ! 2

1duckyboy Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Extortion or just the passing of brown envelopes? Extortion makes the payers victims instead of willing participants in systematic corruption.
Danderman123 Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 The question is why go through this exercise? Is it possible that some corrupt types were trying to avoid passing the required funds higher up the food chain? Or, is it the case that The Powers That Be have to periodically sacrifice one of their own to appease the public? 1
sherwood Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Thailand 5555 The police have uncovered corruption by less than a handful of officials. Outstanding. Keep up the good work boys,5555 1

This isn't true. You can be extorted for having an affair, or you can be extorted by having the extorters threaten to, for example, harm your family.

Police suggest he acted as a broker between a mysterious figure identified as Mr Mu. The latter is understood to have collaborated with Mr Srisuwan and Mr Yoswaris. Nevertheless, at this point, police are not yet certain whether this individual is an important witness or a suspect in the case. Meanwhile, it is understood from police sources that Mr Mu is an adviser to a senior cabinet minister. The senior cabinet minister is none other than Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Thammanat Prompow.

Elkski Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 I'm a bit confused on the crime. So some government person who stole funds and gis buddies in the scheme were being extorted? 100 mil? 3 mil USD. Police feeling Pressure to stop investigating. How so?
