Looks like a defective pickup to me.  Overload normally just lifts the front off the ground - also happened all the time when they were primary transport vehicles upcountry and people were standing on rear extensions.

Not only a phenomena isolated to Thailand

Those last few boxes on the tailgate , must have broke the pickup's back .

good job it was not speeding down the highway ,would have been a nasty accident,

It was possibly some previous spot welds which caused the mishap.

1 Ton Utes fitted with 3 ton springs is the norm here.  

The manufacturer foresaw incidents such as this by installing a drive shaft with a universal joint.😀

Yes, mostly by people towing 3500kg caravans and then expecting to still load the pickup box.

To help overcome suspension sag they fit airbags... and the chassis breaks.

Although the specifications are similar the vehicle appears to look like a 20yo Nissan rather than a Toyota????

But not due to overloading  usually from vibration on unsealed roads.

LAst year I stayed close to a wood, weighing and unloading point.

Weigh screen was visible and I saw pick up s coming with a weight load of  1900 kg.

Tricycles were prepared with additional springs, copy paste, and were carrying up to 900 kg weight load.

I was a bit flabbergasted they all didnt break, well at least not at that time.

That's right, It's not an Asian Built Ute, American built  Utes are rated for more than 1 Tonne.
