Some claims are demonstrably true or false. I'm not aware of any evidence of mainstream fact checkers being found out to have lied.  Fact checkers are generally supported by democratic processes. Far right wing conspiracy theorists are free to fact check anything they read as well. They just need to back it up with evidence, not just call something fake news. That's what credibility means.

the US is one of the most propagandised countries on the planet, the media is all owned by a few, you can flick the channels and the outlets literally continue word for word, but you seem to believe everything you're told with out question.....

I've always been a fan of Realism. Facts must be fundamentally either true (real) or false for society to even operate in my view. I'm not talking about scientific theories like whether einstein was right or not but most facts are easily proven to be either true or false. #1 I just reject out of hand, sounds too much like religion to me. The solipsists are too caught up in their own importance. Teenagers are very likely to be solipsist and I was too until I realized I was destined to become ant food.

There is nothing like scientific training to keep one focused on facts, evidence, and objective measurement.

 

Unfortunately, it is not a well paid profession. We pay lawyers, accountants and politicians very well indeed, considering what they do.

 

As a proportion of the world population, scientists are 0.5% of the workforce. The South Koreans lead the field with 1.7%. The percentage has grown from 1% in 2010. It shows in how Korean products have replaced the Japanese in terms of cost and quality.

 

OTOH, American trust in science has been declining for years, and took a big hit during COVID. Human nature being what it is, we gleefully accept the miracles of modern technology, but shoot the messenger if it is facts we don't like.

 

Make no mistake, Trump is anti-science. It directly contradicts the message he is trying to sell. Which probably cost 100K -200K Americans their lives on his watch, during COVID.
