They have too high a rung on the hierarchical social ladder; the same one that foreigners can't even get on. Erm... I disagree.... I know numerous Thai's from various rungs of this 'hierarchical social ladder' you mention (also known as 'socio-economic-edcuational status) and it is easily navigated by foreigners here in Thailand when they themselves know how to behave... I think its easy to 'fit well within' the rungs of this hierarchical social ladder you mention... But it also depends a lot on the person you are.... If you are factory worker, retired at 50 and moved to Thailand and have shacked up with Noy from the local 'restaurant'... then no... the rungs of that ladders are unlikely to be manageable.... But, if someone is of reasonable socio-economic-edcuational status themselves and have married a partner of similar socio-economic-edcuational status then that 'hierarchical social ladder' is easily climbed, navigated etc... That may be an unpopular opinion for some - But Thai's are astute, and well educated Thai's can easily tell when someone is from within their 'status' even foriegners... They pick up on the same social traits, the same socio-phonetics and general behavior and that is strengthened if the partner (wife) clearly shows the same 'characteristics'... Like it or not - thats just life. 1 hour ago, Neeranam said: She was in the wrong, accept it. The Dr. Was wrong to sit on the steps ?.... I think thats a grey area... they were steps, sitting there was hardly doing anyone any harm... its not as if she walked up to the house and sat on the veranda. It could have been someone sat on a supercar - it doesn't warrant a 'beating' or getting kicked. There is no excuse for the Swissmans behavior (I think everyone agree's with that). I think the reason for his Visa being revoked is also do to with his nefarious business dealings. I don't think the attack alone, is sufficient for him to have his permission of stay removed. But, there has been a lot of digging into his business practices and there has been some 'rather dodgy' dealings going on... I think his visa is being revoked because of his illegal business practices rather than the attack on the Dr who was sat on the steps at the beach-front. 3 2

My comment is probably only for those who read a lot here will understand ....😉 Sure. That's totally different then. Completely acceptable for a doctor or anyone really to switch to English or another language both parties have in common if they can't understand what you're saying in their language. That happens in every country. Different story if you're fluent and know it and yet get spoken to in English by say a doctor, when you are always spoken to in Thai by the rest of society. I see it as a form of arrogance on the part of the higher educated types, seeing this doesn't happen when interacting with most other people. I’m describing a scenario, which happens very rarely even to me, but has happened. Even though I'm not very regular on here, I know what you are referring to, hence why I responded.

English is still at this time considered an international language - one that is often taught to people as a second language because it is used as a common denominator in international communication (eg. Airline communications). The odds that any person seen as a foreigner speaks Thai at a minimum conversational level.... is still rather long odds... 2

Popular Post zakalwe
Well, David's visa is officially revoked. Today (March 7, 2024), at 07:00 AM, Police Major General Prinyapak Klinsakorn, Deputy Chief Inspector of Immigration 1 and Deputy Spokesperson of the Immigration Bureau, revealed that last night, on March 6, 2024, Police Lieutenant General Sorasak Sirisukha, Commander of Immigration Division 6, signed the approval for the revocation of the visa of Mr. URS BEAT FEHR or David, as proposed by the Immigration Division 6, Phuket Province. It was deemed that David's actions were believed to be a threat to society or likely to cause danger to public peace and order, in accordance with the conditions specified in the Immigration Act of 1979, as confirmed by the Provincial Governor and the Commander of Immigration Division 6, Phuket Province. Henceforth, the Immigration Division 6, Phuket Province, will notify the individual and proceed to detain him. However, Mr. David is still in the midst of fighting a case involving bodily harm. He still has the right to bail out and fight the case until it reaches its conclusion. The Immigration Division 6, Phuket Province, affirms its commitment to proceed with the legal process while considering the peace and security of the community in the area as paramount. Popular Post webfact
Swiss man’s visa revoked after physical assault on Thai doctor by Petch Petpailin Photo via ThaiRath The Immigration Bureau revoked the visa of the Swiss man involved in the physical assault on a female Thai doctor near Yamu Cape in Phuket last week. The Thai doctor, 26 year old Tarndao Chandam, filed a complaint against Urs Fehr after the Swiss man attacked her on Saturday, February 24 when she and her friend sat on the steps outside his luxury villa near Yamu Cape in Phuket. Tarndao added that Fehr and his Thai wife had also insulted her and threatened to use their police connections to put her in jail as well. Fehr initially denied attacking the doctor, saying he tripped on the stairs and accidentally kicked her in the back. The video of the incident, which Fehr recorded by himself, proved that his claim was not reliable. Under public pressure, Fehr and his Thai wife came forward to apologise to the doctor at a press conference, saying they did not mean to hurt or offend anyone. They said they were just worried about intruders as a Chinese woman recently entered their villa premises without permission a few days before the incident. Despite their apologies, Tarndao insisted on pursuing legal action against Fehr for physically assaulting her. Aside from the assault case, public attention also focused on Fehr’s wealth and business in Phuket, the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park, prompting authorities to investigate whether the sanctuary was operating legally. Police also extended their investigation into property held by Fehr and his wife together with the latter’s possession of firearms. This incident also sparked the investigation into the illegal foreigners and their business in the whole province as well. Visa revoked Thai people, especially locals in Phuket, demanded that Fehr and his family members leave Thailand and urged the authorities to revoke his visa, saying the Swiss man disrespected the country and its people even though he lived and ran a business here. The Deputy Governor of Phuket, Adun Chuthong, submitted a document to request the revocation of Fehr’s visa to the Phuket Provincial Immigration Office on March 5, and the provincial immigration office approved the revocation last night, March 6. Immigration Bureau spokesperson Parinya Klinkaysorn reported that Commander Songpord Sirisuka viewed Fehr’s behaviour as a threat to society, capable of causing danger and disrupting the peace and order of society. The spokesperson added that Fehr would be detained at the Phuket Provincial Immigration Office for the physical assault charge but he could apply for bail to fight the case until it is finalised. ThaiRath reported that the Phuket deputy governor also called for the Swiss man to be blacklisted and permanently banned from entering Thailand if he is found to be involved in any further illegal activities. I'm no snowflake and to be honest I shouldn't have singled out doctors as I've never experienced anything but mutual respect from Thai doctors. We would communicate in Thai. Even one time when I was misdiagnosed as having a case of severe constipation as opposed to kidney stones, all was well. I went back minutes later and got the proper diagnosis by a different doctor. I've encountered a very small number of Thais, mostly businessmen and university professors who look down on farang and refuse to speak Thai to them. It's so rare that it's barely worth bringing it up, but these are the people who use language as a weapon. They can't fathom speaking their language to an outsider. Anyway, I don't wish to sidetrack this discussion by going off topic. This incident will sadly create more tensions between Thais and foreigners. Just hope he leaves the country soon, so we can finally move on. 2

In every society in every country there are these scammers and criminals, that's why prisons exist. 1
