TroubleandGrumpy Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 First John Cleese and now Riyan Ruparelia - where will it all end. 1
Popular Post Jingthing Posted March 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 6, 2024 I support people from the west considering moving abroad for financial arbitrage motivations, especially retirees, successful digital nomads, etc. Housing costs in the U.S., Canada, U.K. etc are ruinous. However people need to be realistic and understand that no target country is a paradise and they need to be realistic about how they are going to support themselves, as the place may be cheaper but it sure won't be free, especially if working in the local economy (plus of course visas). So you solve some problems leaving, but you gain some new problems as a trade off. 1 11 2

Popular Post G_Money Posted March 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 6, 2024 He young, somewhat hip and stylish. He could be a hit with the ladies. Until they find out he’s one level up from being broke and homeless. Think he’ll asking to “split” the bin on night out. It’s the latest fad of his generation and frankly some older Cheap Charlies. Waiting for the follow up on this story 3 years from now. His lengthy work resume will be beneficial for employment in Thailand. The next E beggar. 2 3

If it all goes pear-shaped you are still young enough to re-boot somewhere else, even back home. But, how do you plan to support yourself and later your parents? Gen Z or whatever is being produced now are so self serving, selfish, me, me, me types. So at 22, with no real money behind him thinks he can live and work in Thailand, as what? A receptionist because, that seems to be his only qualification! Scuba diving instructor a possibility but that takes money and time or a teacher but no degree. Bat Sh!T Crazy! Deluded, wake up kid, get a job or start a business in the uk, make your money then come to Thailand to loss it...... 6 4 1
JackGats Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 "Bought a one-way ticket to Thailand"? What other parts in this story are bogus? 2
Popular Post Screaming Posted March 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 6, 2024 It appears that his parents might have been immigrants to the UK. Now this dude is bad mouthing his hosting country. I bet that gold chain around his neck will not last to long if he keeps flashing it around. 3 2 2

Popular Post HauptmannUK Posted March 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 6, 2024 Ruparelia is an Indian (Hindu) surname - most likely from western Gujarat. Very likely that's where his parents hail from - possibly via East Africa. Anyway, its yet another nonsense article based on some self-promoting TikToker. Not sure why the media bother with these stories. I don't suppose he'll be any more successful in Thailand than in the UK. Not sure what career opportunities Thailand can offer over the UK. Possibly he can take a position teaching English on poverty wages with no pension. Despite all the criticism of the UK there are still lots of opportunities to get on. My wife arrived from Thailand in 2015 with virtually no English and no qualifications and in 2016 went into partnership in a hotel/restaurant. She now makes serious money - many times what she'd earn in Thailand. 7 3

Popular Post Moonlover Posted March 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 6, 2024 Well if he's the same guy that I've found on Linkedin, he certainly seems to have his smarts about him. Better qualified than I ever was. Former President of Reading University Kickboxing Society | Bsc. Economics graduate from the University of Reading United Kingdom. He doesn't strike me as the sort of guy who'd just strike out without having some sort of game plan. Good luck to the young fella. I hope Thailand delivers what he's striving for. https://uk.linkedin.com/in/riyan-ruparelia-279b99172 3 1 4

Popular Post CG1 Blue Posted March 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 6, 2024 Families of Indian (Hindu) heritage have usually been quite successful in the UK. So he's presumably financing his relocation through Bank of Mum & Dad. Obviously he'll have visa challenges ahead. And at 22 he's going to make a lot of mistakes, but good luck to him. Oh and...'Thrice holidayed in Thailand'? Who wrote this story, William Shakespeare? 😆 1 4

For his purposes he should prioritize paths to permanent residency and citizenship. Nowhere in Asia. Possibilities in Latin America.
