Popular Post bob smith
today I witnessed something truly horrifying. A few monkeys came onto the beach, presumably on the lookout for food, when 3 beach vendors armed with slingshots started firing at them!! I was mortified, so were the rest of the customers. What gives them the right to behave in this manner? surely there is a law against such barbaric behavior? How can they be so cruel toward animals? This happened at a well known tourist location in a secluded part of the beach. it has completely ruined my afternoon. would they do the same to cats? I kinda doubt it. bob. Popular Post marin
I guess you have not been to Krabi Bobby. The main temple Wat Korawaram is well known for its monkey problem. How do the monks keep them from taking over? Slingshots, and they are really good at hitting them. Lots of monks cheering when they are driven off. Fun times that all enjoy. I thought all thais were good people. theres nothing inherently good in firing a slingshot at a monkey! bob. 1 5

Popular Post KhunLA
Being people are too stupid not to feed them, the slingshots is a humane alternative. If not, within a season or 2, the vendor and people would be overrun with monkeys. Then they become very dangerous. Popular Post jak2002003
Yes it's cruel. But it's not likely to do serious harm to the monkeys...and it will deter them from returning and becoming a serious pets. 1 1

Actually, I wonder what would happen if it was a few farangs using the sling shots at the monkeys? 1 1 2

Prubangboy
I'm in Morocco. Our guide did this yesterday. I've seen it done in the semi-terrifying Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali too. Bob, you're behind the curve on this one. We're talking about monkey-zinging, not monkey-killing.
JimTripper
One thing I dislike about a lot of Thai's is they don't seem empathize with animals. I had a maid that was kind of uncaring to my cats and it was kind of odd. It always gave me a red flag what they would be like towards children also and to watch for that lack of empathy in anyone I ever got serious with. They break fences, pull down media lines, attack kids, scratch your car up if you are daft enough to stop and feed them and can be very aggressive. 2

Don't give them your business. If others also refuse to give them their business, they'll learn. EVENTUALLY ... as vendors aren't GENERALLY noted for their ability to catch-on very quickly! 1 1
Popular Post G Rex
You should be thanking those beach vendors for protecting you. Many unsuspecting (and uninformed) tourists get bitten by monkeys. I do not think that Hepatitis B should be on your bucket list.
