Haven’t had your morning coffee? That was a bit harsh.

I never made any comment about Cambodia which everyone knows is a far poorer country than Thailand overall. I simply said that there is also poverty in NE Thailand.

I live close to the Cambodian boarder and see every day the big American Cars with Cambodian plates. The signs in the private hospital here are in Khmer and Thai as most of the patients are from over the boarder. There are clearly also a lot of  wealthy Cambodians who live close enough to do their food shopping in Thailand.

I don’t see any EV zealots on this forum. A few enthusiastic owners like @KhunLA, @JBChiangRai and myself who are very happy with our purchase but we don’t tell everyone that they should also own one.

Never use Shell as their fuel price is higher than PTT or Bangjak

We EV owners are not arrogant at all. Maybe a bit more progressive thinking than the ICE diehards. We aren’t virtue signallers either although which part of less airborne pollution is a bad thing?

You don't read the posts by the ev zealots do you... perspective is a funny thing... if you are skewed in one direction or another... anything out of your center of vision is also skewed.

Posters like @Bandersnatch who believe in renewables and willingly share their knowledge and experience with others without condemning non-believers (unlike some anti-EVers).

All of us were (and some still are) ICE owners so you can hardly cal our perspective skewed. I put it to you that it’s those that haven’t or don’t own an EV that has a skewed perspective about EV ownership.

you don't understand Cambodia at all.. "and see every day the big American Cars with Cambodian plates".. these are the corrupt.. you can see Rolls Royces and other exotic cars regularly crashed in Phnom Penh almost every night - the drivers often run away or someone comes to collect them - some causing injury or even death to ordinary Khmer - where do you think the money could come from ? Cambodia is the most corrupt country in SE Asia.. and figures very poorly in the world ranking as far as corruption is concerned - I think even falling in recent ranking... I know Thailand is corrupt, but the dynasty in Cambodia is more akin to North Korea than Thailand. you were comparing the poverty in NE Thailand with the poverty in Cambodia.. I forget your exact words.. by any measure the poverty in Cambodia is many degrees worse than Thailand.. the recent news,,, I think I am correct in saying that Cambodia has the poorest mental health in SE Asia... why do Khmer cross the border in such numbers to work in Thailand in the lowest paid jobs if there is any sort of equality at the bottom of the social ladder  ?... why do people in Cambodia seek to go to Thai hospitals if they possibly can ? There have been a number of recent cases where Thai's have been lured to Cambodia to work in high paid jobs but as then imprisoned and forces to work scams - that is regularly in the news...

Well stated.   For me, and reinforced when we are O&A, such as last 9 ish days, it's the savings & performance of the EV vs ICEV.    Petrol, 91, back to 38.16 yesterday in the South (BKK 37.68).

So that 320 kms WLTP range, which we usually get at highway speeds 95 kph +/-, only cost ฿370 vs ฿872.   Our most expensive hotel during that O&A was ฿1000, and only 2 nights, most were ฿5-700 a night.   So nicely 'discounted' hotel stays that whole O&A :coffee1:   We usually stay rural.

Performance wise, a good example was an alternate route to hwy # 41, which is slow going, with truck traffic and construction past Surat Thani airport (Surat Thani to Chumphon), so we took a parallel road.  Which means a couple things, 2 way traffic, no longer 4 lanes & divide, but with the EV's performance, passing isn't a problem, and we actually save time or takes the same time, but gain kms to the range, when driving aggressive, as the regen kicks in, and send energy back to the battery.   I passed many times, when ICEV couldn't, as simply didn't have the performance to do so.  MG ZS far from a performance model, but way more powerful than the ICE version, and really fun to drive, when pushing it.

We stopped for meal, and I noticed battery was at 50%, and still had 173 kms of range, exceeded our usual 320 kms range when on the main roads.   Another plus of back roads, no speed camera, as I found myself at 90+ kph, breaking 100 more than a few times, when safe to do so.  Driving aggressive actually gained about 8% range on a full charge, if consistent.

image.png.c3d0b6852a93a7d82cebea985667d7b0.png

Times 2 for 100% = 346 kms vs usual 320 range for full charge.

Knocking around town we get 360 kms, so even more savings.

No actually.
The knowledgeable “ev crowd” as you term them are just that, knowledgeable and happy to share their experience.
Others come here to tell all that a guy at the pub told them 20 yrs ago that ev were evil or uneconomical etc, etc…

Have you tried the Cambodia forum ?

In our family there are 2 EV’s and an ICE.

Myself and oldest daughter have EV’s and they are used almost every day.

My youngest daughter has an ICE, and it’s been parked in my garage for four weeks since it was last used. An EV wouldn’t suit her as it would be left too long. Both my daughters are at university in Chiang Mai and they tend to always go out together in the EV down there, my youngest daughter only uses her car when she comes home for holidays and even then, not very often. It’s 4 years old with less than 10,000km on it.

I have friends who are snowbirds, they only come to Chiangrai for the cool season, and an EV wouldn’t suit them being left in the garage for six months unused.

You said you had plans to add solar. I gave you examples of cheap solar equipment

You said you had plans to buy an EV. I gave you an example of  a cheap EV with V2L

You said you were aiming for close to complete self-sufficiency on the farm. I gave you information about how we have achieved it.

You complained about the poverty in Cambodia. I gave an example where I had created an educational project that has put fresh veggies in the mouths of poor kids everyday for the past 7 years.

I regularly contribute to support the poor folk of our village at our local temple, but none of that has been anywhere near as effective as the project at the school.

Instead of complaining about poverty, do something about it.

Your post script is obviously made up. Unlike ICEVs, EVs don’t line up to charge. You wouldn’t really know there is queue even if there was one as the cars would just be parked up.

Plenty of vids on YouTube showing EVs lined up to charge.  Wake up, you're living in denial.

They can figure out that someone who never post any evidence to backup their claims is a BS merchant.

I am not an EV evangelist. I have said many times that EVs are not for everyone.

Someone like yourself who has yet to master the ability to use Google to check their facts before posting, well let’s just say that you would find EV charging apps a bit of a challenge.

Yes, let's just say that.  A challenge to find any sane reason to have them in my life.

The interest for me is not in the many glories of EV ownership but rather in the almost unfathomable mentality of those who promote it.

You start this Shiite by being disingenuous, sow and reap Lee.

This thread is for people who are interested in learning about ev from experienced hands, instead we get W️’s like you and your mates.

Go and do circle jerk together about your ice, people here aren’t interested in your dribble.

You claimed that you saw a queue at a PTT station, which is IN Thailand, so I called your bluff. You responded by posting a video in Australia which compounded your falsehood. I’m sorry I called your bluff for all to see.

There! I apologised. Would an EVangelist, even when right, ever apologise to a non-believer? That’s proof positive that EV owners are not EVangelists lol.

Q at Thai CS is usually 1 car parked, possibly plugged into a slower charging cable, while 2 plugged into a fast cable.   I'm usually the first to leave, and there wait time (my experience any way) is never longer than 15 minis.

I've yet to encounter a Q,  need to wait, even on weekends.  I'm usually the 1st or 2nd to plug in, as the 3rd arrives.   We'll leave at 85-90-95% if someone is waiting, as at that point, no need really to charge more, as we won't be going that much further.  Very rare that we didn't top up to 90%.  And won't bother topping up past 95%, as that last 5% goes in way too slow.

More than enough for another 3 hrs on the road the next day, as we'll usually stop for a P or munch before any need to top up the battery.   Bu while there, yea, plug in, as takes 20-30 mins to take care of business.  Really no different than owning an ICEV for us.  At 30 mins, we're back at 90-95% in that time, so good for another 3+ on the highway.   3+ hrs is usually my daily limit on the highways anyway, when O&A.

Of course if you're driving a 4-6 hrs stretches at a time, and need to be there ASAP, than an EV for over the road driving probably isn't for you.  Watch out for those speed cameras, as being enforced now.
