Over the weekend, Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat inspected the recently installed canal aerator in Klong Pak Bang, Kamala. This action has been taken to mitigate the foul smell resulting from the canal.

Among the accompanying officials were Phuket MP Chalermphong Saengdee, Advisor to the Governor of Phuket Province Dr. Somkid Chokong, and Deputy Chief of the Kamala Tambon Administrative Organisation, Santhat Khummit.

The aerator, provided by Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi’s Energy Research Center, functions on solar power, infusing about 450 litres of oxygen per minute into the canal.

It is expected to substantially improve the canal’s water quality. Sophon has ordered the installation of two more machines within a year, aiming to enhance wastewater management in the canal.

However, despite these efforts, wastewater dumping continues to tarnish the canal. The governor urged local businesses and residents to assist in maintaining clean water bodies. He stressed incorporating wastewater management systems into construction projects to support sustainable environmental conservation.

The report, however, did not address any recent actions taken to inspect areas that might be unlawfully discharging untreated wastewater into the canal.

The smelly, frequently backed-up canal flows into Kamala Beach. In February, another case of black water was reported on Kamala Beach, raising health concerns for tourists.

Ok where does it get the 450 litres from?

It does't say. Perhaps they just bought in a tanker-load of LOX and dumped it in the canal. As usual the report is questionable and it was not oxygen but air. 🙄
