Israeli Pensioner Robbed and Abandoned by Motorcycle Taxi in Thai Tourist Town

An 81-year-old Israeli tourist has reported that he was abandoned and robbed by a motorcycle taxi driver during a trip to Sattahip, Chonburi, Thailand. The incident occurred around 6:00 PM on May 13th.

 

Mr. Albert Mahlev was found sitting alone at a roadside shop on Sukhumvit Road. He had travelled from Pattaya to Sattahip for sightseeing, hiring a motorcycle taxi from Soi Buakhao in Pattaya. According to local sources, the driver left him stranded at a Sukhumvit Road intersection and made off with his mobile phone.

 

Struggling with the language barrier, Mr. Mahlev waited by the roadside for help. Concerned local residents eventually contacted Sattahip Police Station. Tourist police from Pattaya and Sattahip came to his aid and escorted him to the police station for further questioning.

 

Pol. Lt. Abhisit Phuengyam, Deputy Inspector of Sattahip Police Station, stated that Mr. Mahlev initially had trouble providing detailed information due to language difficulties. Authorities are currently seeking an interpreter to assist in gathering more details from him.

 

The local police are now investigating the incident and are urging any witnesses to come forward with information that could help identify the motorcycle taxi driver involved.

Seems you make the mistake of thinking that Thailand was some sort of Utopia in the past. Not so. Anyone been in Thailand for over 30 years knows that. It may have been better for us farangs, but there has always been crime and violence.

Just read up about the university students getting shot and such like.

In 20 years in thailand iv never heard of such a thing happening,iv used motorbike taxis countless times and never had a problem(apart from some dodgy driving)im not saying it didnt happen but theres probably more to the story than what is reported here

Why would he have peed off the rider?

Does it matter how long the rider was with him?

Many tourists cannot speak a word of Thai, but need to get around.

Maybe the fella was trying to use the translation app and the rider rode off with his mobile.?

For me he's one of those cheap tourists who want to save money and hiring a motorbike taxi, but too old to handle the robbery. And unable to keep his phone.
