hi i am 9. i am triggered by smiley face things on the internet.

you should look at it like a badge of honor that some adult took the time to show a cry baby emotion on a comment you made. we need a gotcha emoji on here.

or a dumb question emoji would be good too.

9 or 69, same same, ?

  • Yes, though in the absence of a 'Thumbs down' dislike/disagree option then the Sad, LOL and Confused emoticons tend to get used as alternatives. I don't really understand why there isn't a thumbs down

  • If you were a teenage girl I would tell you not to worry about it dear.   Any grown man that worries about emotional stickers has a problem. The war veterans must be rolling in their graves.

You need to: (1) grow up (2) toughen up (3) grow a spine (4) stop confusing yourself   This is a website for grownups who don't throw hissy fits when someone disagrees wi

Surly there’s more to life being validated on AN or any recreational forum, isn’t there? Especially anonymously, or is it a self gratification thing?

Hard to see the humor in my reply to scuba, and hilarious someone actually care, and you do not see it.

Mothy Python in motion this tread.

or the giver just used it because you had a beef with them in another topic.

Giving positive emotions would be a better indication when someone likes your post, but no response would tell you your post was not making any impression, while if you disagree, you actually have to tell why you react in a negative way, and give the person a chance to clear a misunderstanding. Just giving a confused emotion is lazy and in my opinion spineless when it is just because you have a different view for instance in the more political threads.

I could not find any negative Emojis.  The closest was "Sad", which I can apparently use without justification.

Personally, I prefer to say it with words.  When it comes to communication in text form, I think words are the best tools that we have.  But sometimes I just want to mumble "Here, Here", or "Hear, Hear", and wave my ballot paper, and a Thumbs Up emoji saves on bandwidth and screen space.

It's probably good that the "confused" emoji is anonymous, because the obvious response it will engender is "Halfwit ! ", and I doubt that is the second step on the way to a constructive discussion.

No never look at it, but i vaguely remember seeing that years ago. Using mobile web none of it is shown anyway

The confusion is probably because you are using the present tense of the verb (like), when it should be the past tense (liked).

Everybody knows that Paul died on November 9, 1966.

P.S., I did not see your original post about Paul McCartney, so if your post was made before November 9, 1966 (quite possibly on the old ThaiVisa board), then your tense would be correct and I deserve a thoroughly good kicking as a penance.

Off-topic, but you need some English lessons.  Just because someone is dead doesn't mean your opinion of them goes into the past tense! "I liked Paul McCartney" means that you used to like him previously, but you don't like him now.

I heard he died in a car crash. But then again, so did the Paul McCartney impersonator. We've gone a full circle.

I am sure there are some people in this forum who don't like me, and maybe they click often on "bad" reactions.

Do I care? No.

Do I try to find out who is stalking me? No. Why should I? I also don't care if a dog on the other side of the road barks.

Hear, hear!   So many posters seem to think that there are points, and maybe even prizes, for positive anonymous reactions and demerits for negative reactions that push them down the non-existent AseanNow league tables!  So sad.

I got the confused emoji for saying I like Paul McCartney, amongst other things. I'm not sure what's so confusing about liking Paul McCartney.

I guess some people are easily confused.

Maybe the "Confused" poster thought that you were claiming that you know him?

More important is the removal of the dislike icon.

How can an emoticon that doesn't exist be removed?

It comes more down to the mentality of this forum, and all the negativity we are served on daily basis.

Do I care? If I did, I would stop posting, still interesting to highlight the use and abuse of negative emotions. And I seem to get a new record in in recieving them today

Perhaps have a look at how you're posting, dude. One decries negativity, but one seems to be conveying just that in this topic. If you're receiving loads of 'confused' emoticons, it is generally a decent indicator of content. It is quite useful, and best that they are anonymous now since some will take offence and follow folk around for daring to 'abuse' them with the wrong smiley. All rather sad, but as they say, nowt as queer as folk. 🙂

So you say, we should not dare to state our opinions to avoid someone start feeling negativity against you, and start pushing confused emotions wherever you post, no matter what content you post?

There was more than one confused emoji. Actually the entire thread was full of confused emojis, including my own. That's what happens when you get old lol. No-one understands you, I'm getting used to it.

Did I mention that I'm also the "thread killer"? 2 comments by SiPi and everyone loses interest. 🙄

I like it.  It's an easy way of highlighting a confusing or misleading post.  I preferred it when it wasn't anonymous, but can understand why that was changed.

Some people 'troll others' due to personal conflict from a previous thread, regardless of the content of the specific post they are adding the emoticon to.

I have seen this in others - some posters make an excellent series of points, but they get the 'laughing, confused or Sad' emoticon...  its often obvious which posters are trolling who.

I have a good suspicion of who posts such emoticons in my comments - those posters are already blocked because of their trolling, so I guess this is their only way of getting in a childish cheap-shot - its easily ignored, but I'd like to see the anonymity removed as I think the behavior is rather gutless.

There used to be the +1 and -1  (emoticon on whatever it was called)..

I thought this was a good option - but some people were too thin skinned when they received a -1 and turned it into a vendetta...

I personally thought the -1 was a good aspect of the forum at the time - if I could see someone I respected disagreed etc, it would give pause for thought - or if it was just a trolling idiot I could ignore it.

Some people have nothing better to do with their time than to dole out confused emoticons to all the posters who once ruffled their feathers. They can go on doing that for years.

Humor is the most difficult thing, especially on a forum where different ages and cultures mix.

Not me.  But, even if I was guilty of that, and I'm not, how could you ever know the sources of any emoticons?

i recall prior to them blanking out the sources you were prolific with negative emotions so that will remain the same

The confused emoticon is ambiguous. It can express

1. I don't understand what you have written, or

2. I understand what you have written but I don't understand why you have posted it.

It is ok to express positive and negative response, but I prefer to use positive emotions instead of negative, where Im more than happy to reply and tell why I disagree, and why I think it is wrong.

Anyway, the thread have proved my point very well, and I have with intention tried to provoke by using spineless.

Nobody seems to catch the humor either. I take responsibility for that.
