Pattaya —A sedan partially fell into a shallow construction hole in Pattaya in the early hours of Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024. Luckily, there were no injuries.

A video about the recent construction pit issues in Pattaya is HERE on our YouTube channel.

The accident occurred at the front of the Phu Yai Kui Market in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Rescue workers received reports of the accident around 2 AM and responded to the scene.

There, the rescuers found a Toyota Yaris car, with its front plunging into a construction pit for laying water pipes. The car was slightly damaged.

It was found that there were only traffic cones placed around the edge of the pit, and there were no warning lights indicating the construction area.

The stupidity of proper transition around construction here amazes me.  A large hole with the first indication a cone 3 feet in front of it.  They should have signs, and a row of cones at least 100 feet prior directing traffic away from these areas.  If this was western country the cities would be liable for damages and injuries.  Here, nothing which is why they don't care.

Thailand is definatly 3rd world when it comes to road warning bollards correctly positioned.  Lucky a bollard next to the danger or a branch. Then again blacked out windows does not help. I did it with my first vehicle in Thailand and that was enough of a wake-up never to do it again. Driving at night was a nightmare full of scares and near misses.

It is unsurprising the number of accidents given the amount of roadworks all about town where work proceeds in fits and starts, often remaining dormant for days at a time;  and also the penchant for Thai drivers to speed with one eye on their phone whilst drunk.

Well, we can say the cones are there as a warning sign, and the lights on the car are there for the driver to see the cones. Guess this guy missed all that.

Brightly-lit street, the car has headlights, yet still the driver can't see what is on the road ahead. Busy on the phone, I presume?

At least he missed the cone.

Not only people want to take a high dive, the cars are starting to do it as well :omfg:

Driving a vehicle in Thailand is an adventure. We never know what might happen. Keeps the heart beating and senses working overtime.

Missed everything except the pit.

Have you ever observed the workers on roads & footpaths in Thailand? I doubt they have ever driven a motor vehicle in their lives.

And, as I rediscover regularly with my peasant family here, lack of education of any kind does not help in imagining yourself in someone else's shoes.

Yep, definitely should have had a tree branch.
