Brutal assault on Canadian raises serious questions about tourist safety in Pattaya

Nope, just the one security guard who had been told the Canadian guy was trying to break into a car (and it looks suspicious)

A pushing match ensues, where the Canadian fell back and hit his head on the road.

That's empirical fact, hearsay or speculation?

EDIT: Just read the subsequent post, question answered.

I only go to Pattaya now to visit a buddy who has a condo there for the last 8 years. Of these he worked overseas for most if them , so I'd use the condo for a month or two per year, keeping it clean and doing a bit of DIY when called for.

He finally really retired there about 3 years ago. He has being trying to sell the condo and move elsewhere for two of these years, as he thinks Pattaya has become a really dangerous sh.....hole.

He has been assaulted by Thai at bars or leaving bars (where he is a regular) twice in 12 months, just because of some percived slightly. Thinks their all a bunch of nutters with the emotional restraint of toddlers now!

There are a percentage of Thais who never really matured into a fully developed man. Some are very easily offended, and seem to be itching for a fight. Hopefully, it is a small percent. One has to ask:

1. Who are his parents, and why did they fail so miserably?

2. Why did he stop maturing at the age of 13, and never become a man?

3. Why does he have no self esteem. What caused him to hate himself so much, that he could not just walk away from a simple perception of a slight?

4. Why does this worthless thug have so little respect for others, and for human life?

Best to just steer clear of these creeps. I've had a few situations that could have escalated and I was able to cool things down with a show of respect and by forcing myself to be apologetic.

So what was the reason?

Leaning on a car?

I doubt it.

Some users here is out of mind. Even if he have kill mamasan of some bar that not make reason to beat him to hospital. In every similar topic same persons writing comments at probably have do something more wrong and that's why security guys have beaten them. But there is no any kind of reason ever beat people to hospital if you are working security. (Not in other cases also reason beat anyone)

Even if someone kill someone foreigner or Thai in soi 6 or anywhere, that security people work is control situation until police will arrive and then after that killer get justice but country like Thailand can be at even in police station that killer get wrong kind of justice but there not helping if security guys beat him hospital condition, girls cut balls away and mix with vodka before ambulance arrive and nurse in hospital poisoning with rat poison before monks dump body what is left for street dogs.

Gawd you carry on with imagined nonsense.

The drunk Canadian fell over after being asked to get off somebody else’s car.

Police need to use the full force of the Law and show all "Security" what happens when they become the Judge Jury and Executioner..... Then keep prosecuting all such thugs in the same manner it cost Thailand $$$$ Millions of Baht if not dollars in Lost tourism due to bad press - So spend some money vetting all security that they are non Violent guardians that need to call the Police if needing assistance instead of beating them into the ICU ward of the local hospitals.... Its normal practice to do a security school course that they need a clean criminal record and a full understanding of what there role, job, purpose is and what will happen if the cross the line from protector to violator.

Why are security ie bouncers never photographed in the local press once pulled for beatings of tourists.

These hero bouncers, who always fight in groups, should be found guilty of attempted murder and given serious jail time. If not, the world should be notified how dangerous it is here.

You're posting that after a post confirming that there was no group of bouncers, just one and there was no fighting, either.

Where's it say he was punched?

In the original OP, although that apparently inaccurate report has since been corrected.

"Mr Westendorf was attacked ... when one of the so-called bouncers struck him...".

It's a reasonable inference that "an assault" resulting in his "being struck" involved a punch

You haven't been in Asia long enough if you don't think leaning on a car could bring on savage behavior.

I have and, on it's own (as demonstrated in this thread), it wouldn't normally.

I was talking to a Thai lady in Pattaya. When she found out I was from the US she said Thailand does not want Westerners in Thailand.

And you really think that "the lady" in Pattaya is representative of Thailand as a whole?

What on earth are you going on about?  He did not get beaten, as has been pointed out already in this thread.

"...girls cut balls away and mix with vodka before ambulance arrive and nurse in hospital poisoning with rat poison before monks dump body what is left for street dogs".

What the flying duck...?

Sorry did not read every message before answer for this one. Message was answer for typical reply in this kind of thread's where people's justice security peoples violence for reason someone have do something wrong. No matter in Thailand or USA or Europe. Security peoples using power often wrong. Same go with polices and some times with inviduals. There is laws and rules in every country and mostly in some Muslim countries it is allowed beat, kill or throwing rocks to dead person who have done wrong.

The shadow has long been cast and it's never gone away. It seems like there's a rather significant, disproportionate amount of crime in Pattaya, committed against foreigners. Much of it seems to be committed by desperado ladyboys. It's likely just the fact that it tends to attract a certain crowd, and people tend to prey on that certain crowd.

Otherwise, Thailand remains quite safe for the vast majority of visitors.

Simple solution close the soi down

A wai and 500 baht is hardly  a deterrent. Jail time and big fines for establishments that employ these thugs might work.

Thought they cleaned up pattaya but not, think next crim spot would be phukett caused by the unlimited number of war dodgers & associated dregs with visa allowances..non of this inspires family tourism..what can a 60 year old do against a young trained fighter, must feel like a real hero..
