There was a raid on three herbal shops in Pattaya yesterday. The police uncovered illegal employment, false health claims, and deceit upon investigation.

The Pattaya Indian Community Association reported these shops. They stated that the shops were exploiting customers by selling overly priced and ineffective herbal remedies. The businesses were compelling foreigners to purchase these expensive items.

In response to these allegations, the Consumer Protection Department at the Chon Buri Provincial Public Health Office, the Bang Lamung District Health Office, and the Pattaya Tourist Police coordinated a surveillance operation on the said shops. Upon confirmation of the illegal activities, officials took action.

Officials found an array of products such as cosmetics, shampoo, soap, herbal indigestion remedies, hair oil, lotions, and skin oils. These products claimed to have exaggerated effectiveness. Some of these items were even unregistered, violating Section 17 of the Herbal Products Act. All these items were seized for evidence.

Five people were apprehended in this operation. Four were accused of encouraging foreigners to buy the doubtful products, while one foreigner was working without a permit.

Pattaya Tourist Police Superintendent, Police Lieutenant Colonel Piyapong Ensarn, verified that the evidence and suspects were handed over to the investigators at Pattaya City Police Station. The charges include the production, sale, or import of medicines without approval under the Drug Act and sale of unregistered herbal products under the Herbal Products Act.

Odd that The Pattaya Indian Community Association reported these shops, when all I hear is that it is Indians or SE Asians selling the stuff on the street.

Competition?

They simply do not like the competition, after all, they were doing exactly the same thing.

Only 3 out of hundreds run by Pakistani and Indian nationals.

Presumably the others are coughing up the bung...

SNAFU ☻

"...exploiting customers by selling overly priced and ineffective herbal remedies."

That's one of those "protected occupations" for Thais only.

"The businesses were compelling foreigners to purchase these expensive items." Someone please explain how the compel people to buy their products: hold a gun to heads or what?

I bought a packet of their herbal condoms. It's the worst chewing gum I have ever tasted.

"Crackdown" didn't lasted long. As of yesterday, it's less than 10 days, these scammers are working as usual near and even inside 7eleven close to Avenue. Who knows maybe they managed work permit while arrested, but I see it as humiliation of police that  we see  this instead of deportation.
