Disinformation

Featured Replies

I would like to put this up for discussion :

What is everyone's opinion on disinformation on aseannow.com 's forum ?

I realize that as a free speech medium, some quantity of disinformation is inevitable and even necessary for free speech to happen, but what about posters who repeatedly and intently author a large amount of disinformation posts even after they were proven wrong ?

Is them posting disinformation fine or should they be taken action against ?

  • No. Only the Trump supporters should be reported. The leftists should be allowed to continue lying with the reckless abandon they have grown accustomed to.

Like who? examples? could be just difference of opinion

Firstly this certainly is not a free speech medium precisely because the thought process that that you expouse that those posting "disinformation" should have action taken against them is prevalent here already...the problem is how and who defines what is "disinformation" ?

...I think it should be up to the readers of this medium to make up their own minds and the more opinions and more speech the better.

Of course there are laws that have to be adhered to, but speech and/or opinions that violate the law should be removed with a full explanation as to exactly why they are being removed as a common courtesy to posters who take time and effort to post their opinions.

Moderation of individual posts is not the subject.

I'm asking about posters who repeatedly post disinformation with the obvious intent to mislead readers.

Actually it should be said that with  the "Trump supporters" every accusation; such as "allowed to continue lying with the reckless abandon they have grown accustomed to",  can be verifyably regarded as a confession.  Asking for "links" is also one of their trademarks.

Do you have a link?

In the same way that you are what you eat, you are what you read or at least you end thinking the same way as your bubble.

Unfortunately disinformation gets clicks and eyeballs. Anything that elicits an emotional response will engage your audience and they will repeat the disinformation thinking it’s fact.

Anyone else furious about Big Ben being turned into a wind turbine?

In the age of social media, disinformation or misinformation with goal of misleading the public for political or monetary gain should become an offence with mandatory prosecution upon a citizen's complaint.

Fines and bans could be the consequence for media outlets and ineligibility and ban from politics for lying politicians. Remember the millions Brexit would save UK's NHS every week ? Remember Tony Blair ? All these liars should have disappeared from politics. George W and his cronies as well. All sides have them.

Your example above with the wind turbine should cause that paper to be fined.

I'd lump all of MSM in with the disinformation label.   Along with CDC, FDA, WHO, NIH, NSA, FBI, CIA, UN, considering the events of the past few years, let alone most of my life.

Nothing but BS & flat out lies ... killing or displacing literally millions of people for profit.  Humans really can be the lowest of all species.

The media’s disinformation disseminated and told as truth is nothing more than a fashion statement, the current bs will fade away as the next swarm of lies come into fashion. This is Darwin’s way weeding out the weak as the dumb get dumber and further dumbed down and scammed by the selling of forfeited truths.

Should action be taken against President Biden for the disinformation he relayed in his speech last night?

  • Popular Post

The problem is that nothing much is absolutely true.  The current year or the current date, fine. Otherwise, it’s all just part of some narrative.  So whenever someone starts moaning and groaning about “misinformation “ or “disinformation,” that’s just a person who doesn’t agree with some version of events that they don’t subscribe to.  And that’s perfectly OK, so long as that’s as far as it goes.  Calling for censorship?  Censorship crosses the line.

There are degrees of misinformation related to the interpretation of events say, genuine mistakes or misunderstandings............then there is downright lying, which some, Alex Jones, Joe Rogan, Donald Trump have realised is a huge money spinner.

Free speech....let's go for it....but have courts set up to deal with the downright liars in the same way as the UK dealt with the right wing rioters.

  • Popular Post

From what I’ve seen recently , the courts in the UK are now a joke.  Every day, I seem to see a story about so-called “right wing rioters” being jailed for simply expressing their opinion.  It’s hard to believe, really, that the situation has deteriorated to that point. Calling people “right wing rioters “ doesn’t make it so, contrary to what the spin doctors want everyone to believe.

As for Alex Jones, Joe Rogan and Donald Trump?  Are you serious?   More often than not, when those guys open their mouth to speak, you should listen.  You might wake up some day.

I find the coverage awfully biased in favour of the establishment view. I find the extreme pro-Israel view, when they are murdering so many people in cold blood and attacking schools and hospitals to be offensive and don't read that thread any more.

My thoughts when opening the OP were solely about facts and and misrepresenting facts. I think the requirement for truth should apply the same to left/right conservatives/liberals etc.

I think outright lying and misrepresenting facts is not OK, especially in politics. I'm not against theories, but they must be clearly presented as such.

Facts?  That’s part of the problem. One person’s facts are another person’s BS.

I’m beginning to think that some of the posters on this boards aren’t real people, but Bots.  Their sole purpose is to post nonsense to stir up trouble. I guess that’s OK, until someone can figure out a way to allow only real people to post.

Just go to the Israel Palestine thread, you got a few both ways with eyes wide shut pushing a view even when challenged with facts turn it upside down, they play the game the longer they spread the often half truths and not full information there for it must be true, going back a few years there use to be several posters who would go into long rants pro US over the current flash points and promoting a new Cold War, that got hit on the head after a time, but in defense of these zealots with a particular view the press are just full off it, if they needed to raise an army fast they wouldn't have a problems the press have been con dishing us for years.

Darn, I thought it was 45 and the weirdos who judged everyone... No abortions for you, no food stamps for you, post menopausal women are only made to be child-rearing grandmas, people with cats and no children should not have the same voting privileges as those with offspring, no new solar or wind jobs - all we need is to drill baby drill... And, above all else 45 is way more attractive than Kamala, according to his weird brain.
