I met my gf in a bar, many years ago. At that time, it seemed almost everybody met their girlfriends in bars - at least the people I know personally.

I am not looking for a new gf, but I have to admit from time to time I play that game: what if. What if my gf would have a deadly accident and I would be single again and looking for a new girl.

Would I look in a bar? Any other specific places? Online?

What kind of girl/women would I look for? Similar to what my gf was when I met her many years ago? Similar how she was recently? Something completely different?

 

In a way I would like to have another one similar to what my gf used to be. Young, cute, innocent, happy enjoying life.

Apart from the big issue if such a girl would want me, it seems to me there are not many young, cute, innocent girls around anymore. For the sake of this thread, let's say >= 20 years old.

Maybe once a week I go with a friend through a couple of bars in Nana. And what do I see? Mostly fat girls who are nearer to 30 than 20, many over 30. Most of them are a little or a lot overweight. And very few give me the impression that they are just nice girls. I think years ago there were plenty of nice girls in the bars. Now, not anymore.

Obviously, my vision and perception changed with age, experience, etc. I am also not as horny anymore, so the "wow, I want her" situations don't happen much anymore.

But all in all, I think there are just not many attractive girls in the bars anymore.

Sometimes I still see cute waitresses in restaurants, nice girls in 7/11, etc. But in the bars? Seldom, very seldom.

 

What do you think about this? If you are not against the concept of having a gf from a bar, do you still see some or many girls which you would consider girlfriend material?

Bars have changed over the years.

 

25 years ago the Ban Chang bars had all teenagers working, lots of cute, fun girls, cheap, you never wanted to go back to Pattaya. 

It was always a sad trip driving back in the car to Pattaya, sleeping on the way back, very late.

 

It seems that these teenagers never left the bar, still working there today, all older women selling themselves.

 

Soi 6 is now full of overweight 20 something year old girls.

So did I, married 2 decades ago so she could remain in my country and get her Citizenship, and yes everyone met theirs in bars, or gave that story of mines better than yours, I met her in a shopping Centre where she worked (her looking at me and mentally undressing me with a smile.....LOL, while the guy is gas bragging to me).

 

Nothing wrong with playing the field, I consider it healthy.

I would address it, if and when the time comes, a bar again, hmm, possibly, but most as you say would be older, as we are because the younger ones would have gotten hitched by farags like ourselves, and the other ones are finding education, i.e. staying in schools/Uni longer and getting real job opportunities, depending on where they are located, Issan would be 7/11's.

 

I don't look for GF in bar or anywhere, Most of the time I am looking for a shag. I have found 3 girls in the past year that I would have stayed loyal and gone long term with if circumstances permitted. 

 

So the actual answer is yes I do see the occasional girl that would fit the bill for a long term monogamous relationship

When I return from the UK I'm normally on a late flight so I stay over in Bangkok and have a night out.  On a recent trip I bumped into a bloke I've known for a few years. Sitting in a bar opposite Big Dogs & Morning night I commented that the girls were older and uglier than I remembered them to be 20 years ago. To which my mate commented 'Yeah, its the same girls"........🤣

I am too old to go looking in a bar for a replacement GF. It would be ridiculous.

 

There's a massage lady I see regularly who mourns the fact I am already taken. She's a possibility, although nutty as a fruitcake.

Plenty of girls in 20s in Pattaya, maybe come here every few weeks. Of course you could get these girls as girlfriends if you pay enough. More common for older guys to have girlfriends in their 40s, also plenty of those around. Personally i like being single, not looking for anyone

I just wanted to talk about a situation where it doesn't sound like I want to get rid of the old woman to find a girl half her age.

If my gf behaves similar to the way she did over the last years, then it is unlikely that we ever separate.

I haven't gone inside any of the gogo bars in nearly 20 years, but maybe Soi Cowboy has younger girls compared to Nana. Somebody else who goes to these places may be able to confirm that. 
 

I don't know, but I suspect the younger girls now go right onto some of those "dating sites" to find a walking ATM there. Thus, many of the young ones probably don't end up in bars anymore. So perhaps what you are seeing in gogo bars are the old maids who have been doing it for 15-20 years already, since they were also young, and are now too old for the dating sites.

in my experience Cowboy has lots of old women, and a few nice girls. I used to go there a lot, now not so much anymore.

In average I think Nana is better.

There's plenty of 20 to 25 year olds giving it up on social media apps like Line and Instagram. Way cheaper than gogo bars as well.

OK, then that answers it. Personally, not sure how anyone can even sit in any of those places anymore. Some were good back in the early nineties, but to me they now seem so loud (with bad music), boring and depressing. Are people also still smoking cigarettes inside those places?

To answer your OP, my answer is no. I don't go to those places, but in general I wouldn't consider that type of woman as a partner anyway. I'm not against them, nor do I look down on them, but 30 years ago some of them were more what you described. A bit more cute and innocent (some of them). Now they are mainly the underachievers of the world who have taken the hard road and they are likely to bring you down both emotionally and financially over time. 
 

Someone looking for a girl in Thailand should have some better ways of meeting them now than back in the nineties. Gyms can be a good place to meet women who are able to stay on track and care about their health, but that's probably best for men in their thirties.

Pre Covid, I could not venture out on Sukhumvit 11 or environs without running into someone from "back in the day". It always surprised me that they remembered my name. After Covid most went to ground. For years I would meet women I once knew from back then with their husbands or boyfriends after they had settled down.

But to me "the bar" had a different meaning.  Back then, the demographics in the clubs and after-hours scene (Sin, Tunnel, funky dojo, etc, even the plastic chairs on Sukhumvit) were more mixed, and freelancers were often just regular women looking for a bit of fun and perhaps (but not always) a financial top-up.  I only spent time in the gogo bars when a visiting friend insisted. 

 

You could meet women from the hospitality industry, travel agents, shop girls, and even the odd nurse or university student.  I'd be just as likely to pull an expat office worker or teacher as a Thai. 

   
 

I have not been to Pattaya for over 2 years but sometimes I look at YouTube "walk around" vids and see a few likely candidates. But then I'm to old for a 20 year old. Or a 30 year old. Even 40 year old would be a challenge. So I'll stick with my 50 year old for now.

 

Now that I'm thinking about it, I'll plan a trip. Just to have a look......

Show me 100 pictures of girls and I might pick 10 who I think look the way I want. And then? Look is just one thing. I wouldn't want to meet them and 5 min later I know already that I am not interested - and for them it's maybe the same.

In a bar I see maybe 50 girls on stage. I seldom pick the best-looking girl. How do they move? Do they look at me? Do they smile? A few minutes just looking at them, without talking, filters already most of them out - often including many of the good-looking girls. And maybe suddenly one of the not top looking girls makes a good impression.

Add a drink and a few minutes of conversation, and there is another big part where I know: This is not what I want.

Yes, some people smoke in some places. I never cared about that.

And in some places, I like the music, in others not so much. The good thing is that there are many bars.

I would check all the massage shops in Pattaya for candidates, they are more girlfriend material than bars and agogos and cheaper, more newbies with less or no tattoos, but with any of these younger girls, you will be their job if you pay them monthly

Online dating is different, with some disadvantages over bar dating. However, it has one key advantage, the girls you can meet online are not exclusively bar girls. Nothing against bar girls, and respect to those guys for whom it has worked it, yes it can, however, for actual dating not everyone wants a bar girl only.
