Harris Dominates Fiery Debate, Putting Trump on the Defensive

During a contentious 90-minute debate, Harris frequently unsettled the former president, provoking him into lengthy defenses about the size of his rally crowds, his actions during the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, and comments from former administration officials who now criticize his campaign.

If debates are determined by which candidate best leverages their strengths and navigates their weaknesses, Tuesday night clearly favored the vice-president. Throughout the evening, Harris persistently put Trump on the defensive with sharp jabs and taunts that demanded his response. She labeled him as weak, claimed foreign leaders mock him, and said his rally attendees leave early out of "exhaustion and boredom."

Harris entered the debate with apparent vulnerabilities on issues such as inflation, immigration, and the Afghanistan withdrawal. However, Trump struggled to land effective rhetorical blows on these topics and may come to regret missing this strategic opportunity.

I watched it all the way through,

Harris eviscerated Trump, led him right into ranting and whining negativity while offering a positive message.

He took the bait.

On a positive note for Trump, his portrayal of a rambling bitter old man unable to stick to any topic without wandering off into fabricated gibberish was spot on.

What I always found curious was the expectation of the right wingers here that Harris wouldn't know how to handle herself in a debate. They believed the caricatures of her. As for Trump, I don't know if a caricature is even possible. He just lived up, or is that down, to the reality of who he is.

One particularly bizarre moment was when Trump claimed he saved Obamacare.

“I had a choice to make” on Obamacare. “Do I save it and make it as good as it can be? Or do I let it rot? And I saved it. I did the right thing.”

Easily the stupidest sentence ever uttered by Trump...

"I have concepts of a plan"

I mean this debate was not even close. Harris should probably be charged with elder abuse.

During the debate, Trump stated, "In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in, they’re eating the cats."

https://www.fox29.com/news/trump-false-claims-migrants-eating-pets

Did Trump mean that the non-immigrants in Springfield were eating dogs and the immigrants were eating cats? Does this mean that Trump thinks it's OK to eat dogs but not cats? I know he likes McDonalds but this dog-eating thing reveals a whole new side to Donald.

The thing is, they would have to replace Trump with J.D. Vance. I wonder if he eats dogs, too? He certainly has that kind of vibe.

Assuming from the first sentence of the OP, this will be just another Trump bashing thread.

Expect nothing less from the BBC which is IMO biased when it comes to Trump, and IMO the above is wishful thinking, but certainly not true, IMO, as regards to putting him on the defensive, or favouring her.

My opinion on the debate, a draw. Trump stayed relatively sane, and Harris had nothing new to say. I doubt a single voter will change their mind on that one.

It was more like a boxing match during which neither boxer managed to get a good punch in, and ended in a draw.

I've said it before, but IMO the debates are a waste of time ( normally, though we probably watch them in hope of a Biden type crash and burn ), and we learn little if anything we don't already know. However, the advertisers will have minted it.

Trump's sticking to script lasted about 3 minutes. Rest was his usual self of lying and bragging. The fact checks by ABC on Trump live was brilliant. Swift's endorsement for Harris post debate will win Harris lots of young votes.

For some IMO works as a get-out-of-jail-free card. It obviates the need for any evidence-based rebuttals.

So this thread started 1 hr ago, and debate not even close to over, but has Harris winning, or has Trump against the ropes :cheesy:

Classic leftist reporting :coffee1:

If the debate ran 90 minutes, than it was over only 30 mins ago.

IMO opinion it was as "contentious" as watching a cat sleeping. Boring more like. It was so gripping I didn't even bother watching and did something more useful, while just listening to it, just in case something did happen. Conversely, during the Biden debate I was virtually glued to the TV.

You're gonna see a blue USA map in November !  Trump will resume sitting in a Defendant's chair...... as Harris said "top US Military Commander's said he's a disgrace"........
