Terrifying Encounter: Hospital Maid Saved After Being Attacked by a Python

On the night of September 17, 2024, in Samut Prakan, a 64-year-old hospital maid experienced a near-death encounter with a massive python while washing dishes behind her rented home.

 

The woman, Ms. Arom, had just finished dinner and was tending to chores at around 8:30 PM when she suddenly felt a sharp bite on her thigh. Initially thinking it was a monitor lizard, she looked down to discover a giant python, more than 4 meters long, coiling itself around her.

 

Terrified, Ms. Arom attempted to pull the snake off by grabbing its head, but the python’s grip tightened, causing her to fall to the ground. Despite struggling for over two hours, she was unable to free herself.

 

Alone and in pain, she began shouting for help. Fearing for her life, she believed she wouldn’t survive the ordeal, thinking she would become the snake's next meal.

Luckily, a passerby eventually heard her screams and immediately called the police and rescue services. Officers from Phra Samut Chedi Police Station, along with rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, quickly arrived on the scene.

 

Finding the door locked from the inside, the team had to force their way in. To their horror, they found Ms. Arom barely conscious, tightly constricted by the python.

 

After 30 intense minutes of working to free her, the team managed to release the snake’s grip, but it quickly escaped into the nearby swamp. Ms. Arom was rushed to the hospital, suffering from multiple bite wounds on her thigh, but she survived.

 

The quick response of the police and rescue workers undoubtedly saved her life from what could have been a fatal incident.

Maybe because the poor lady was still holding on to its head?

She would probably have had more bites if she let the head go.

Why not slice it in half then ?

The muscles constricting on her do not relax if you cut off the head. Nor if you slice the body. You have to try to unwind the snake.

They found her barely conscious. Must have been a very tight grip. Just speak true, as we all know, they always saves the animal and return it to nature. That´s why they did not kill the snake.

Yes, there are still some big monitor lizards there too.

What a horrible situation. She must have been petrified.

Obviously not knowing if possible, never having been on that situation, but if she had the head, I wonder if she could have gone for the eyes. It might have made the snake release her.

 

Just a thought.

Maybe you are missing a couple of protons. I was referring to conservation of wildlife, not life stock. If you just have held your itchy fingers for 1 minute, you could have caught that too. 😉

5 mtr long and it was wrapped around her for two hours I find that hard to believe I had one wrapped around my neck for 2 minutes if that and I thought my end had come until the owner unwrapped it from me and it  was only just over a mtr long

A monitor bite would be preferable to slow suffocation and then being swallowed possibly while still alive.

Cutting the head off would be a good start. The snake might stop if its head is dethatched from it body. I likely would have not escaped into the swamp with its head gone. DUH! And please spare me, if an animal comes out of a swamy to attach a human it should never have the opportunity to do so again...ever. Kill the damn thing!

As per other comments, cutting of the head my cause the snake to 'constrict' further. 

 

Apparently spraying / squirting alcohol or vinegar into their mouth causes them to 'let go'.

 

But, I agree, then catch it and kill it so it doesn't get the chance to kill the poor lady (or others) again. 

 

... and for the animal lovers... I just don't care, human life supersedes animal life in 'such specific circumstances' (thought I'd agree there are also circumstance where an animals life supersedes the human life, such a poaching etc).

I'm glad the python "escaped into the nearby swamp." That' must be its home.

The best way to get a constrictor off someone is to uncoil it from the tail end and then grab it behind the head and stabilize it so it can't work its teeth and cause further damage. Eventually it will let go.

They often hate to kill animals(other than for food), even when they pose serious threat.

Mostly from their Buddhist belief, killing will reduce their merit for the better re-birth for their next life.

Accumulation of Good Points is the top priority among their value system.

That is why they often donate to the temples, monks, beggars, and stary cats/dogs.
