LH Invests 5.7 Billion Baht to Elevate Pattaya's Shopping Scene

Pattaya's shopping landscape is on the brink of transformation as Land and Houses (LH), a leading Thai property developer, unveils a substantial 5.7 billion baht investment in its renowned Terminal 21 Pattaya shopping mall. This move underscores Pattaya's robust economic potential, rivalling its famed beaches.

Opened six years ago, Terminal 21 Pattaya has become a must-visit spot for tourists, featuring the longest escalator in Thailand at 39 metres. According to Prasert Sriuranpong, managing director at LH Mall & Hotel (LHMH), Pattaya’s year-round tourist magnetism and strategic location within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) enhance its attractiveness.

This year, Terminal 21 saw a 12% increase in visitors compared to last year, even exceeding pre-pandemic levels. The influx is driven by tourists from countries like China, Singapore, and India, who spend significantly more than domestic visitors.

LHMH is capitalising on this trend by adding new retail spaces and hosting international events, such as the Pattaya Marathon, attracting over 15,000 attendees. Additionally, a major renovation is planned for the Fashion Island mall in Bangkok, expanding parking by 40% and set for completion by 2025, showcasing LHMH's confidence in Thailand’s retail growth.

News story about unveiling of budget but without saying anything what is actually planned to be done - if anything rather just wanting media visibility

Maybe they gonna upgrade the signs in the car park that point to the mall entrance, as the few times I have parked there, it was not clearly visible

I reckon for that kind of money they could build a complete new mall from the ground up

Elevate ... why ?

Do they fear those rising seas :coffee1:

Recently walked around T21 on a Saturday afternoon, and it was fairly quiet. Emsphere has killed it to how it was

There's an Emsphere in Pattaya now?

Must see ??

I'm no retail expert but I struggle to comprehend how or why you would need to spend 5.7 billion baht on the Pattaya Terminal 21 in its current state. I can't believe that is factually accurate

What's the marathon got to do with Terminal21? It's always held at 4 am so no one gets to even see it. Except maybe the drunks leaving Walking Street.

Totally agree.  I've only been once and parking was so difficult I will not be returning.

As the T21 segregated as the separate REIT, my guess that LH just bought it’s shares from some major shareholder.

Yeah, I mean when I travel halfway across the world, I can't wait to go to a congested city and visit a mall.

Most of those in T21 haven't travelled half way round the world. They come from other Asean countries or places like China, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. That end of 2nd Rd mostly caters to the same market.

Westerners, South Asians and Russians do visit as well but not in as great numbers.

It appears to be the case that the mall's initial popularity took the owners by surprise because they had to build a second multi-storey car park.

I'm different, I find nothing of value in places congested with people, the farther I get away from civilization the better. Being stuck here in Bangkok, one of the most congested places on Earth is like living in a nightmare to someone like me. Now if I could only convince my wife and daughter to leave this 5th level of Hell.
