Ten years on... still no handicap toilets on Jomtien Beach

Featured Replies

This matter only applies to handicapped people... one would think. But it could happen to you!

Pattaya Mail reported on this issue in 2019 and 2013.

https://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnews/underground-toilets-planned-for-beachgoers-264621 (2019)

https://www.pattayamail.com/news/public-private-partnership-to-bring-disabled-access-to-jomtien-beach-21277 (2013)

Wheelchair users were supposed to have facilities on Jomtien Beach.

But nothing has happened.

I have published an interview with four affected travelers.

This is unfortunately published in some weird Scandinavian language. But a translation is only one click away on Google.

I have contacted City Hall. They have been kind enough to confirm my interaction, but there is still no concurring answer.

May I ask you use the word "disabled "

The word handicapped is offensive to Australian people

And I agree with you by the way

There are many disabled people not just the elderly that need proper facilities

Thankyou for your service

Hi there, I note your input. But I am going to stick with “handicapped”. That was the term when I used to write for certain media. The history is what it is, renaming of terms seems to be just an academic exercise .

I'm not sure why we can't use that word in Australia but it's beside the point

The issues you raised are very important

What can be done about this ?

Possible a private operation can start and  a fee to use the facilities

Why?

What is the difference between the two words?

Just more workerism!

Maybe a email to the  Socialist Australian PM,but hurry this will be his last term!

Yes there is. ( not of the disabled type)

But they are pay toilets / showers on the side of some shops not local government run.

What about Pattay beach.....Also no toilets.....Remember the underground toilets anyone?

I would say your best bet is to find the most useful toilet from across the street for the disabled and then let everyone know.....

Have Aussies gone soft?  The most recent interation is "people with disabilities ".  Put the person first and the affliction after.

I have no idea how cripples even access half of Jomtien Beach in the first place.

But why would they have toilets for the crippled in a third world country?

Disabled is offensive as well. I prefer handicapable. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Enough with the discrimination already...

...a better title would be:

Dongtan Beach has long had two, but unless they're installing some as part of the new drainage works then I'm not aware of any on Jomtien Beach itself, though you can always cross the road and use the facilities provided by various shops and guest houses for a fee.

Hi there, the underground toilets were mentioned in Pattaya Mail in 2019. I'm not sure what happened. Did they ever get off the ground (was that a pun, sorry)?

The difference between these two beaches is that Pattaya Beach has two shopping malls with facilities. Central Pattaya and Royal Garden Plaza. Jomtien Beach? Nothing.

They both mean the same thing 'Meaning that the person is not 100 %  capable of doing things with their body and or  mind.

A physical or mental condition that limits movements, senses, or activities.

Offensive or not one can use whatever one likes + a few others one can dream up.

Anyway, the toilets one can use for ten baht on the land side of Beach Road are not accessible with wheelchairs

Makes sense. Mongers would use them for short times. Having toilets at the shops is viable.
