EU health Support is only valable in Thailand if your stay is a vacation.

EU healthcare insurance doesn't pay if your stay is not a vacation.

You can live well in Thailand until your health suffers. It isn't the occasional doctor visits, medicines or even some surgery that costs too much, it is the constant return visits for dialysis or something really chronic. Getting health insurance is really expensive.

I can understand why Spain might be good if the same health requirements are free or cheap.

Getting health insurance is not only expensive but it is useless when you are suffering from these diseases already.

Thai immigration police has nothing to do with tax law.

Lawyers specialize in separate parts of the law, this could be criminal, estate, tax, divorce, ...... So it completely depends on what sort of lawyer you ask the question.

I do actually know something about Thai law because of my work.

To be fair, if your health was still good you would have stayed in Thailand despite the rest of your post citing corruption and inconveniences. 

 

I don't actually disagree with you. I am starting to get knee problems which came out of nowhere and I am only 51. I can only imagine what hell Thailand will become once I need a serious medical treatment. 

 

I have always said it.... you should come to Thailand when you are young. This place is not for old Western men,

Could you elaborate on that? Do you mean the Belgian bank sent the CRS report to Thailand? Normally this is done automatically if the Belgian bank has you down as residing in Thailand and if you provided the Belgian bank with your Thai TIN. It is automatic with no need for Thailand to "ask" for it.

Returning to your home country because as you get older for medical reasons is an extremely complex decision.

Some of us have long term relationships and for me I would rather die with my partner in Thailand than in some lonely place in the UK or Europe - Medical care, at least in the UK, is not that simple either - I need new knees - NHS around 3 years wait (after you pass the consultants "pain" test - private around 14K per knee - Thailand about 8K - For me I'll stay and if things get really bad I'll book a flight to Switzerland.

It's up to everybody to make their own decisions.
I have no partner/relation in Thailand and I don't have the intension to look for a Thai partner neither.

So, that point does not count for me.

I felt more lonely in Thailand than in Spain.

 

I don't know the UK and which rules ate hold by the UK.
But I know Belgium and I have returned back to Belgium several times for healthcare.
In 2018, I was diagnosed with an impending Aorta rupture and the surgery in Thailand was out of my budget.
I went to Belgium and had the surgery done about 3 weeks later.
I went to Belgium for a replacement of my PM and surgery was performed a day after my arrival.
Spain has similar laws as Belgium (EU country) and in the worst case, a flight from Spain to Belgium is only a few hours.

A knee replacement, or any other suregery in Thailand may look cheaper as your country.
But what if the surgery goes awry?
Suppose you go to a hospital for an eye surgery and you lose your vision?
In Belgium/Spain the hospital/doctors will be sued by the healthcare and you will be entitled to benefits as a visual impared patient.
In Thailand you will have nothing, or maybe a way and a basket of health drinks.

A lot of people made the decision to leave Thailand, with their partner, and none of them regret to have taken that decision.

A friend of mine, who was teaching Engarish in an International school was fed-up with his life in Thailand and returned to the USA 5 years ago with his Thai wife and his Thai children.
He has now a house in Florida, 2 SUV's and a good employement at a school.
The house and the cars are all paid off.
His wife has her own Facebook page and sell's at the market and online Thai food/sweets and is very succesful in this.

 

Again, everyone has to make his own decision ...

I think that was the point I was making by using the words "for me"

I actually lived and worked in Spain for 10 years and I like Spain more than the UK (I have Spanish friends there who I visited in September) but living there permanently after Brexit means long term living in Spain with my Thai partner is not viable.

I have to say your response to my post seems like you are trying to justify your decision to yourself as - you say everyone has to make their own decisons - I don't question yours merely say that such decisions are often complex for each individual.
