An incident occurred on November 6, when a six-wheeled ice delivery truck, suffering from brake failure, crashed into a roadside food stall in Sriracha District, Chonburi Province. The incident claimed the life of the stall vendor, a 52 year old woman identified as Ms. Panida Rattanapradit, who succumbed to severe injuries at the scene. The driver, Mr. Diao Pintong, expressed deep remorse, admitting to authorities that he lost control of the vehicle when the brakes failed.

The accident took place around 13:00 near Wat Khao Thung Wua in Thung Sukhla Subdistrict. Responding to the emergency call, Lt. Col. Peerapong Noochana of Laem Chabang Police Station coordinated with the Sawang Prateep Sriracha rescue team to assist at the site. Upon arrival, the scene was chaotic, a white Hino truck license plate from Chonburi, was wedged into the storefront, and a severely damaged Honda motorcycle was found underneath the truck.

Ms. Panida was discovered pinned against the wall inside the shop, her arms and legs broken. Rescue workers used hydraulic equipment to carefully extricate her, but unfortunately, her injuries proved fatal.

The 48-year-old driver, Mr. Pintong, visibly shaken, recounted the harrowing experience to the police. He explained that he had been descending a slope from Wat Khao Thung Wua, heading towards Ao Udom, when the brakes on his truck suddenly failed. Unable to stop, the truck plowed into the food stall. He immediately exited the vehicle to check on the injured vendor, holding her hand as she fought to survive. “I want to apologise to the family of the deceased. I feel an overwhelming sadness over this accident,” he said with regret.

Witnesses at the scene, including Ms. Saengdai Chailangka, a 72-year-old cook at the stall, described the terrifying moment. She said she was preparing food at the back of the kitchen when she heard a loud crash and saw the truck crashing into the front of the shop where Ms. Panida was stationed.

Authorities have arranged for Ms. Panida’s body to be transported to Laem Chabang Hospital for an autopsy.

Mr. Pintong has been summoned to Laem Chabang Police Station for further questioning, and a full investigation will be conducted to determine any legal consequences.

I believe it is high time that the government carry out a concise study by a reputable establishment to ascertain why there are so many "Brake Failures" in Thailand.
