SunsetT Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I suffer from IBS and my doctor prescribed me 10mg amatryptaline for long flights so that I don't have to keep going to the toilet. You maybe know that Amatryptaline in larger doses is an antidepressant but has a side effect of calming the bowel. So it is prescribed and works as such in a a lower 10mg dose. It also seems to work with me as a sedative and over 18 years has always helped me sleep on my flights to and from Thailand. And It is available over the counter at pharmacies in Thailand. My flight routine is a can of beer before the in-flight meal, a glass of wine with the meal and then take my amatryptaline with 400 mg ibuprofen to kill the pain of the sleeping in seat yoga...555. 1

I manage to get sleep in tourist class because the last LONG legs are over the Atlantic to Chicago OR over the Pacific to Chicago and then a short hop to Cincinnati. ok, this is off (my own) topic but one day…ONE day, in our lifetimes, there will be direct flights between BKK and the U.S. It was close a few years ago, from what I understand, but alas…. Something to wish for 🙏

Tazmo Posted November 22 Posted November 22 1mg Lorazepam is good for a restful sleep, it’s short acting, and helps with jet lag too. 1

I can imagine the scene... upstairs on the Emirates A380, putting on the flight attendants hat and having your photo taken in the bar... Tell me you never did that !!!! .... But my reference was to Chang drinkers sitting on the steps of a 7-11.

Amitriptyline is effective and very cheap. It does tend to leave you lethargic the next day. It's also pretty strong. I would have to split it, 3 mg would be quite sufficient. 400 mg of ibuprofen I also find excessive. 200's fine. Ultracet (or Duocetz, from public hsps) is good, might could just go with that and skip the "Ami," as Thais call it, and the ibuprofen.

A good airline and much better service and food than Qatar or Gulf Air ime - the others I tried from LHR-BKK- save for the lack of noise in an A380 and the bar. The EVA bed is not exactly big though, I'm 5'5", normal sized i.e. not fat😄 and there ain't a whole lot of room there. Not sure how someone who is 6' would find sleeping that comfortable. So paying all that extra is probably less beneficial if you're in that category imo. If I am flying in that class then I tend to have a few drinks pre and post boarding and use in-ear Etymotic headphones then good ear-plugs to get down to sleep. Otherwise you just got to make the best of it. Sit next to the window if you don't want to get woken up....though if you have a weak bladder then you're gonna p!ss off your neighbor(s) soon enough😄 Tried pills and they made me feel terrible by time I arrived.

GammaGlobulin Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Here is the best sleep-aid for a long flight, bar none: You will sleep better aboard one of these jets because, even at 51,000 feet, cabin pressure remains HIGH..... My advice is to settle for nothing less than the G800....if.... You are an insomniac.... This plane is a keeper....!!!!! You will sleep better, just knowing that you own a G800.

They were handing out the toppers to everyone in business without being asked. Flying from Canada, where marijuana is legal, I ate a 50mg gummy as I was leaving Vancouver. No problems sleeping at all.

There's a padded shelf at the back that joins with the seat when it's fully flat so a tall person won't have a problem. Now obese is another issue. Probably better to fly premium economy with the wider seats. I've flown a few flights with a redesigned seat layout. You're no longer sitting at an angle compared to the plane but face directly forward. Seems like a good improvement. Hopefully they'll convert the older planes in addition to the new ones.

I imagine its because the flights could be off-putting because they have loud and obnoxious passengers who like to spout divisive politics into a discussion on something as basic as sleep on planes. You must lead such a tormented and bitter life.

When you have that kind of money, you have other worries and problems, than just sleep in a airplane. If not making money on the plane, better flying 1. class wherever you need to go, and trust me, Thailand wouldnt be one of those places anymore 😄
