Woman and Filipino Boyfriend Hospitalised After Consuming Cannabis-Infused Cookies

In the early hours of November 25, rescue officials and police were called to a condominium in Soi Wat Boon Kanjanaram, Jomtien, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi, after a mother reported that her daughter had lost consciousness and appeared to have been drugged.

Responding swiftly to the distress call at 04:15, rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation and Pattaya police arrived at the scene, fearing for the safety of the victims. Upon arrival, they joined the woman, identified as Ms. Maeow, in trying to get her daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend to open the door, but there was no response.

Condominium staff were called to unlock the room, where authorities found a 28-year-old Filipino man, identified only as Mr. B, unconscious on the floor in just his shorts. In the bedroom, a 28-year-old Thai woman, identified as Ms. Bam, was also found unresponsive.

Emergency responders administered first aid before rushing both individuals to the hospital. A search of the room revealed no signs of struggle or violence. However, officials discovered three cannabis-infused cookies shaped like astronauts, with one partially eaten, on the table. A similar snack wrapper was found in the trash. The cookies were collected as evidence.

The mother of Ms. Bam stated that her daughter had called earlier, claiming she had been drugged. Concerned, she immediately sought assistance and accompanied authorities to the scene. She expressed disbelief that her daughter and her boyfriend would consume cannabis-laced cookies.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the pair unknowingly consumed the cookies, resulting in intoxication and subsequent loss of consciousness. Authorities noted that Ms. Bam’s call for help likely prevented a worse outcome.

Both individuals wil remain hospitalised as doctors monitor their conditions. Authorities plan to question them once they recover to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Asleep not unconscious!

Cookies must've been heavily dosed.

The problem when you buy stuff like that is that you have no idea what you will get. You have the sellers word, which unless he made the cookies isn't worth much.

It wouldn't be cannabis alone that brought about this reaction. Some other additive or drug involved. It has become habitual for those affected to blame cannabis for their condition because it is semi-legal. The reality is usually that a banned substance is the cause, but the victim does not want to admit to breaking the law.

It seem as though cannabis has become the root cause of all evils. At 82 I don't smoke anymore, but in my younger dope smoking days I never ever heard of anyone overdosing on Marijuana, some people got a bit paranoid the first time or couldn't stop laughing, but that was the worst I ever heard.

Pity they didn't report where we can buy some.

I watched this and  don't go near cannabis.

Astronaut cookies puts first Thai into outer space.

I reckon mixing and matching booze and dope is likely the problem; serious whitey ensues.

Stick to dope only and the worst you can get is indigestion from scoffing down too much pizza.

This strikes me as a dramatic overreaction on everybody's part. I have passed out from smoking too much ganja back in the days when I used to smoke. I have a friend who just two weeks ago passed out from eating a brownie that was infused with very powerful ganja. She woke up and felt fine. And she did not enjoy the experience so I don't think she'll be doing it again anytime soon.

It's a natural mechanism of the body when it can't cope with too much of a substance to just pass out. I don't know if there's ever been a single instance of anybody dying or suffering long-term harm after passing out from ingesting or smoking too much ganja.

This is pure ridiculousness bordering on Reefer Madness.

Too much sugar in the cookies?

Yep. Who knows how many or how much they had eaten and had they been drinking alcohol. Guess is they fell asleep or passed out as you say. Yep sometimes the brain's had enough and shut's you down. Also the strain of dope can come into play. Sometimes it might be an ultra relaxed sleepy type. One things for sure it didn't just come on and they became unconscious. Doesn't work like that. As for unknowingly consuming them you can't exactly buy these at 711.

Very distasteful comment indeed. People have died. Apart from this dope won't kill you.

My Thai wife is very sensitive to alcohol and over-the-counter painkillers. A couple of years back while working lawn maintenance alone at one house, I get a call from her boss that something is wrong with her. I drive to where she worked to find her on the ground unable to walk and mumbling something about cake. I drove her to the emergency room. But before we went in I got a call from the homeowner who explained that she had given her some marihuana brownies. The owner had explained to my wife about what was in the brownies but my wife's English was very poor and didn't understand. I drove her home. She was in a bit of a panic at first since she thought she was having a stroke. She was fine afterward and said she might try it again. She never has.

Ok, so you're a doper.  Good luck with that.

Being a "doper" (Ah! The evil weed) or not has nothing to do with you conflating the issue of these two taking a little too much of the dope cookies (with alcohol?) and people dying due to a botched backyard distillation set up. Dope won't kill a person. Methanol residue not gotten rid of in the distillation process most certainly can as we all now know. By the way this is what methanol can do and it's what dope doesn't do.

Methanol intoxication (even in small amounts) is very dangerous because it can cause severe visual dysfunction (including irreversible bilateral blindness), metabolic disturbances, permanent neurological dysfunction and even death

Perhaps dope alone won't kill you. However that only really applies if you personally mix up the cannabis yourself. However if someone else has done the mixing and someone else has done the selling, how do you know that what you are buying is perfectly safe?

The same goes for the bad hooch. If you get an unopened bottle of what you order, it should be fairly safe. If however you are taking shots from a bottle that is offered without you seing it being opened, you have no idea if any methanol is added, nor how much.

IMHO it is a case of let the drinker beware of what is offered, especially if it is offered for free.

Yes, like HIV won't but it can help you along.

It is no worse than alcohol of course, but didn't work for this couple.

Darned drug sellers poisoning people and administering drugs without qualification or care.
