A motorcycle collision claimed the life of a foreign man and left two others injured in Pattaya on December 24. The collision occurred at approximately midday in Soi Arunothai, Central Pattaya, when two motorcycles collided head-on.

Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation and local volunteers rushed to the scene to provide assistance. Upon arrival, they discovered three injured individuals, including a foreign man, estimated aged about 50 to 60, whose nationality has not been disclosed.

The foreign rider was lying in road in a pool of blood, having suffered serious head trauma in the collision. Despite the immediate efforts of medics, the man succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Pattaya City Hospital.

The deceased foreigner was riding a blue-and-black Yamaha Aerox 155 with Chonburi registration plates. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police investigations, he had attempted to swerve to avoid another motorcycle but lost control, resulting in a head-on collision with a black Honda Wave motorcycle registered in Rayong.

The Honda Wave was being driven by 25-year-old Mr. Pornwisit, who was accompanied by his girlfriend riding pillion. Both sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Officers from Pattaya City Police Station are continuing their investigation into the incident. Statements from witnesses and the injured individuals suggest that the foreign motorcyclist lost control during his evasive manoeuvre, leading to the collision, but police will review any available CCTV to confirm. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Sounds like a helmet would have saved the falang, Arunothai isn't too bad, vehicles not too fast usually

Yeah, dangerous toad Arunothai, narrow, very uneven and busy, with many a young Thai whizzing about. Although I nearly got hit by a falang driving a tuk-tuk there.....it appeared to have a bit more power than the average model.

R.I.P to the falang.

Was he over taking, or passing a stationery bike, or avoiding someone riding up the road the wrong way.

not enough info on this. so far.

You need to be riding slow and on ultra high alert, at all times on the streets of pattaya

very sad, don't know the details but there are so many accidents waiting to happen out there, not least because, bizarrely, people refuse to wear crash helmets and/or drive/ride appropriate to the road conditions/environment.

He was dodging ducking and weaving, perhaps speed mite have saved him, a helmet surely would have!

And a most unpleasant way to celebrate Christmas for the deceased's survivors.

If the foreigner is the guy pixellated out under the white umbrella then he was wearing a helmet.

Helmets are optional...

80% of the foreigners on bikes here do not wear a helmet. It's so stupid really, in their home country thy would not  behave like this.

Yes and some riding skills also.

Too many of these unlicensed, unskilled farangs riding around without helmets. Thais let injured with a pile of medical and repair bills to pay.

If he is one of ours there will no doubt be a Gofundme to send the body back “for the funeral he deserves”

In their home country they would not be able /allowed/ encouraged even, to behave like this.

A helmet would probably have saved his life.....but who cares about some safety here....🙄

I live on Soi 3  of Arunotai it is one of the most dangerous roads in Pattaya more so at school times, vehicles/bikes ignore the signs and the school staff directing exiting vehicles/bikes from the gates.

It’s even more dangerous for pedestrians with bikes undertaking where pedestrians where are walking.

The most congested part is near the old Family Mart, vehicles/bikes come from Klang and use the side road as a rat run to 3rd Road. Yellow boxes are ignored, I don’t think most drivers know what they actually mean.

Did the news article say that he did not wear a helmet?

No, and as already mentioned above, if the foreigner is the guy pixellated out under the white umbrella then he was wearing a helmet.

How do you know ?...     There appears to be no information or sources that back-up your information, unless you are personally connected to this loss and have direct information.

Its certainly strange that the deceased suffered massive head trauma, while the other parties suffered minor injuries.

Here, where ?...

In Bangkok I very rarely if ever see foreigners riding without a helmet, whereas on the main roads its abotu 25% of Thai's without helmets, dropping to 50% on Sub-Sois.

Are you in an area such as Rawaii where there are lot of 'relaxed' foreginers ?  80% seems extremely high.

The news article stated that the deceased suffered serious head trauma, whereas the other parties suffered minor injuries.

While it may be incorrect, there is also no information that states the deceased was wearing a helmet - given the content, and behavior of a number of folk in Thailand not wearing helmets, I think the assumption that no helmet was worn is not an unreasonable one.

(treetops may have more solid information on this - if he knows something we do not)

Thanks for confirming...

I wonder how the deceased suffered such massive head trauma if the other parties involved suffered minor injury.

Open face helmet ???

Sorry if this was someone you knew.

The head trauma reported may have been artistic licence by the reporter, I honestly don't know.

There was a lot of blood, but I can't tell where it's coming from and my source reported a broken neck as the cause of death (second hand Thai source so take that as you will).  Difficult to see 100% due to the shadow of the umbrella, but it looks like a full face helmet.

I'm not aware of his identity but I don't believe I knew him

Where about on Arunotai was the accident ?

Just outside the school.

So sad, really.

a. Grab riding is better than motosai riding.

b. I have had several friends lose their lives on a motosai.

c. This motosai just SEEMS innocuous:

d. And, it is beautiful and low cost.

e. So SAD.....because....

f.  So, in Thailand, guns are far safer, apparently....

g.  Therefore, would it best to buy a gun in Thailand, or a motosai, if one wanted to preserve health and lower mortality, as well as cost to society?

Just check the data....maybe....
