There are a few series, I missed a couple of episodes or series, and I just sat there watching, Gomorrah was one that I found from the regulars here - I sat watching the episodes until the sun came up. I did the same with this, missed the first 4 episodes, saw your post and binged on all 4 in one night, awesome. I love the Tom Hardy character, Pierce Brosnan is pretty cool, Helen Mirren, not so - but all in all - awesome show. I really enjoyed The Diamond Heist documentary too. 2 1
xylophone Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Last night I watched the movie, "The World will Tremble" and I enjoyed it although it was not what one would call a blockbuster, all the same it was based on a true story and highlighted the plight of the Jewish folk in Nazi Germany. Watching it brought back memories of when I was a teenager in the early 60s and I had watched a documentary on the BBC which showed footage of the concentration and death camps which were uncovered by the Allied troops at the end of the war, and it was shocking, nauseating and almost unbelievable what happened to these poor folk. I remember going to work in the factory where I was serving my apprenticeship in England and spoke to an older German guy (tactless as I was) about what happened to these Jewish folk and how come that there were towns and villages not far from these camps, so surely somebody must have seen or suspected what was going on? His reply was that nobody else knew, but this was later laid bare by a second documentary which showed footage of the time whereby German citizens in the towns and cities were catching and beating Jews, so the hatred of these people was not just confined to the Nazi death camps. Such a sad episode in the history of the world. 1 1

When Jack's will reveals his fortune largely excluded his third wife and sons, detectives Morgan and Jones suspect murder. The Wright family feud intensifies as all become suspects. Watched all 6 episodes and it was good, if a bit slow. Last episode ended "To Be Continued ........" Which I found a little dissatisfying.
bendejo Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Andor. Season 2 premiered this week, 3 episodes dropped. Overall it's pretty creative and keeps the interest, but the stuff with the upper classes bores me to sleep: I ff'd through the wedding stuff. The thing with the fascist "couple" (see last episode of season 1) doesn't do much for me either but I think that will take an unpredictable turn before the season is over. The little bit of humor they inject is usually welcomed without being corny, IMO.
Popular Post oxo1947 Posted April 25 Popular Post Posted April 25 World TV---and Radio I have found this handy over the years--- turn the globe to what country and part of the country you want and pick the TV station===you will not get PVF stations but def get ABC- BBC and a lot of others --when I am on the walking Machine (which is not so often now as the big 8 0 is approaching) I turn it onto USA and watch the older boxing fights. Lots of the old crime series you might have missed on the USA stations----- This is especially good for ex-pats from eastern Europe countries .... https://tv.garden/uk Same concept but with world Radio ---again great for expats like Europeans who can not get their news so easy as Brits Americans etc in the larger cities London etc touch the side after a a list of stations will come up. It will carry on when you come out of it-- if you want it to I am listening to Irish Pub music while I write this . https://radio.garden/visit/hythe/IlWbElss Both especially good if you have Thai wife and live outside of Thailand-- I track down this program for my daughter who's job takes her out of Thailand 4 days every month. If you are domiciled in the UK you might have problems getting this with your government restrictions , as a kid I grew up watching people on their soapbox's --at speakers corner in London-don't know whats happening to that country now Use a VPN - pretend your in Russia...... 2 1

xylophone Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Following on from my post, "The World will Tremble" in which I mentioned the Nazi death/concentration camps, I started to watch the series "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" and the brutal treatment of prisoners by the Japanese was also a very grim feature of the series. I haven't watched the full series yet, but will finish it over the next couple of nights and no doubt there is more cruelty to come, and this made me think about how war seems to turn every day average citizens into brutal murderous fiends. As for the Japanese treatment of prisoners of war, well it wasn't just confined to POWs, because if one reads the book, "The Rape of Nanking" then not only does that outline the heinous crimes committed by the Japanese (ripping unborn babies out of pregnant mothers and parading them around on the end of their bayonets) it also contains some gruesome pics. Iris Chang, the author who researched this particular book and others relating to the Japanese treatment of Chinese folk, later committed suicide and it was posited that the depression she had been fighting for quite some time was as a direct result of the research she did into these atrocities.
xylophone Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Something to add now that I have watched the final episode of "The Narrow Road to the Deep North".......I had always known about the terrible and inhumane treatment the Japanese inflicted on POWs and others whom they "conquered" and at one time in my life after visiting the Peace Park at Nagasaki, I vowed that nothing like that (the bombing) should never happen again. However again seeing the inhumane /brutal treatment dished out by the Japanese, and including that done to the citizens of Nanking, I now could not be persuaded from thinking that the bar stewards got exactly what they deserved......the Japanese in general paid for the crimes of their soldiers. So be it. The series overall was good, but nothing outstanding IMO and made for a solemn viewing over two nights.
jas007 Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I'm back on Apple TV+ the last few nights. "Ghosted." OK. Worth watching for the cute girl. "Killers of the Flower Moon." Excellent. Scorsese directed. De Niro and DiCaprio as two of the main characters. It's a long movie. Over three hours, so set aside some time to watch. 2

Time killer for the brain dead, but it's all I had. If into violence and silly shoot up, then maybe a 5/10. Waste of a couple good actors. 1
