I downloaded and watched a movie I had seen before, but I never realised how much I'd missed in it or indeed, how true it was.

The movie is called "Mr Jones" and it deals with the exploits of a Welsh journalist Gareth Jones and his trip to Russia in 1932 or thereabouts to investigate rumours of a famine, actually in Ukraine at the time, which was denied by Russia and others.

I won't go into more detail but if you haven't seen it, in my opinion it's a "must see" movie which has the work of George Orwell (Animal Farm) woven into it and the lies and doubledealing of an American journalist, based in Moscow, namely Walter Duranty, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting, which should have been revoked due to his lies and support of a corrupt regime.

It has English subtitles for the Russian speak and I downloaded it from the Pirate Bay.

A very relevant film depicting the horror of the Holodomor — part one of Russia’s genocide of Ukrainians, rivaling the Holocaust in numbers. That was behind closed doors. Part two is unfolding now, in plain sight.

I decided to watch, "The Wolf of Wall Street", having seen it many years ago, but I noticed a few things in it which "rang a bell". One of them was the mention of Collateralised Debt Obligations (CDOs)!

First of all I realised what a great actor Leonardo DiCaprio is and although I already admired him for his work, this movie certainly drove it home.

Also, I was involved in the banking and investment industry a little after the time portrayed in the movie, and became Chief Manager Investments for a major New Zealand bank, helping to put together Managed Investment Funds for clients.

It was about that time in the early 2000's when we (the bank) were approached by a major US investment bank with a sales pitch to include CDOs in our suite of products.

After the presentation which was very polished, I couldn't really see how they were the "foolproof" product that was being pitched and suggested to another senior manager that this product wasn't for us because it was too risky and I couldn't really see how it could be included in our suite of products, so we never went ahead with it, which was very lucky because that whole "House of cards" collapsed a few years later causing major financial mayhem including the closing of several large investment banks and brokers.

Life of Chuck is available on PB.

OK, so I watched the movie Mr. Burton set in WW2 era Wales completely blind.

I hadn't read any review and I didn't even know who the story was about.

So I won't even post the trailer as that would give a lot away if you want the same experience.

I happened to really enjoy it.

Yes, its about Richard Burton (Richard Jenkins) and the influence his teacher Mr Burton had on him.

Well yeah but for me it came as a surprise and that made the film more of a treat. I suppose years ago I heard that Burton was Welsh but I certainly knew nothing about his being mentored story.

3.5 IMDB rating?

I'd give it a 1/10!

I watched an Agatha Christie thriller from BBC iPlayer last night, called, "The Witness for the Prosecution" and it starred Toby Jones and Kim Catterall, and it was very good with some unexpected twists towards the end.

IMO it was well worth the two hours (two episodes) spent watching it, and that brings me to a question because I have watched quite a few of these "murder mystery" type offerings from BBC iPlayer and I was wondering if any other posters are doing likewise?

I manage to access the BBC iPlayer through using the Smart DNS app which operates much the same as a VPN and I've never had a problem with it or for watching other hitherto unaccessable sites/programs.

Whitstable Pearl season 3.

Thanks for the heads-up @Thailand. Complete season 3 is on TPB.

As I enjoyed G'wed so much, I found that both that and another comedy were among ITV's most popular series.

So I found out about Alan Carr's Changing Ends.

More good fun!
