Is there still any place for good fish & chips in Chiang Mai?

Really good, not just ordinary.

 

Inflation is ruining food quality (everywhere, not just here).

Finding a good piece of Atlantic Cod, cooked just-right-crispy, not oily, is no longer easy.

Is it possible??

 

For really nice fried fish, price doesn't matter ...

I don't care 100 baht more or less.

 

Oh, and delivery, too.

Central Chiang Mai so contested that it's not worth going in person to restaurants located there.

Far more pleasant to order delivery.

 

The question is where to order?

 

If Norden restaurant offered fish & chips, that would be ideal.

They know how to cook fish (and they do deliver).

But Norden's menu on Trip Advisor does not show any fish & chips.

(Maybe they do, but I missed it.)

 

Other recommendations, please.

Do you honestly think you can find real Atlantic Cod for the price you are quoting?

Why don't you get off your ar$e and go and eat somewhere? Every thread of yours states 'must deliver'.

 

Fish and chips doesn't travel well. Once it is wrapped up it will 'steam' and become soggy very quickly.

 

The best Fish and Chips I have had in CM (and quite possibly Thailand as I can't recall better) is from OMG at the Loy Kroh side of the Ping River next to the end of the Iron Bridge. It's around 300 baht. Choice of Cod or Haddock and served with chips, peas, bread and butter, tartar sauce, pickled gherkin, pickled onion. It is consistently excellent. 

 

I've been meaning to try the chippy at Thapae Gate (behind the Mc'Donald's) but haven't got around to it yet.

Norden has halibut which is very much worth a look if you can't f&c. Comes with mash & mixed veg. Delightful.

something like, "oven baked cod".

Oven baked is not fish & chips.

Maybe tasty, but a different menu.

 

And warning: if fish says only, "cod" that is a slippery lie referring to the fish known as "Pacific cod".

Different fish than Atlantic cod.

Happens in the seafood business a lot.

Change the name of a cheap fish; sell at a higher price like a better fish.

They certainly offer takeaway as I have used this service many times myself (even including a Sunday Roast which was very good). I do not know whether they deliver via any of the food Apps.

 

However, I seem to recall that you have 'your own'  Win rider. Nothing to stop you ordering a takeaway and having your chap go and collect it for you if they do not provide an App ordering service. 

I just want to say that when I was a kid,  mum got us all ( 5 kids ) fish & chips usually on a Sunday night and they were the best fish & chips around.  I think it was only 60 cents for a huge pile of newspaper wrapped chips and the battered cod was like 40 cents a piece.  

 

oh the smell when we opened that newspaper dinner in the kitchen, the topic brings back wonderful cherished memories.

I certainly won't take it as an insult, but if you think Old Curmudgeon can't figure out how to arrange a takeaway, maybe you should read those details a bit more carefully.

 

Now, please, back to the topic: fish and chips, really top-notch fish and chips.

And, yes, delivery would be a bonus.

I can assure you that it is deep fried. From the coffee shop element of the establishment which is situated outside, you are directly looking into the kitchen and seeing all food being prepared. This includes the Fish and Chips which are deep fried separately in baskets next to each other. I have sat there and watched them prepare my meal.

 

Why do you not take some crumbs of positivity from people's posts rather than just trying to pick holes in them and be negative? You are surprised that people then have a 'pop' at you in their responses? I suppose your posting name should give a clue to your attitude. 

I must say my main criteria for a good piece of fish is the batter is crispy and a minimum of oil, same goes for the chips. IMHO that is impossible with a take a way as the steam from being sealed one two or three times will cause the "mushy" effect. Old boomer here eats my fried food in the restaurant.  Cheers, and you have me thinking about a good fish and chips now. 

Although I am not a fan of the OP's posts on the forum, I'll throw this out there cos it is pretty tasty.

 

Frying Fish Club, located in Santitham.  The "original" is very good and the tom yum fish and chips (I know, heresy, but try it) is delicious.  

 

 Delicious seasoned chips, btw.  May be available via delivery on one of the food delivery apps, dunno.

New Years Eve, I had the Large Haddock & Chips (395 baht) at the Chippy at the Gate. 

(Also Atlantic Cod on the Menu)

Skin is left on the fillet, hence you can tell you are getting the real McCoy.

Fish portion was large as to be expected. Chips were cooked properly without greasy residue.

Batter is a subjective topic and it was good, however, I would have preferred a slightly thinner coating with a little more crisp.

A range of standard chip shop side-dishes are also available to enhance the meal.

Highly recommended.

At the price point that you're specifying it's more likely to be Vietnamese Catfish than Atlantic Cod.

Gdyby restauracja Norden oferowała ryby i frytki, byłoby to idealne rozwiązanie.

Wiedzą, jak gotować ryby (i dostarczają).

Ale menu Nordena na Trip Advisor nie pokazuje żadnych ryb i frytek.

(Może tak, ale ja to przegapiłem.)

The closest thing to a port area here in cm is Huay Tueng lake. The shoreline is full of little places to eat fish and there’s fried shrimp instead of chips. There may even be Thai-fries aka french fries, though never seen any there before

Would never consider having it delivered there is no way fish and chips travels well.

It simply asks where to get really good fish and chips in Chiang Mai.
