NONTHABURI - A laundry maid's hard-earned motorbike was stolen just before the first loan instalment was due. Ms. Wilaiwan, who works at a launderette and sells street food in the evenings, had diligently saved for four years to pay a 14,000 baht deposit for the motorbike, needed to take her child to school and commute to work.

 

The theft occurred in the early hours of 9th January, as captured by CCTV. The footage showed a suspect, dressed in black and wearing a helmet, tampering with the locked motorbike outside her home in Nonthaburi.

 

In under two minutes, the thief managed to break the lock and make off with the vehicle. It’s believed that at least two perpetrators were involved.

Ms. Wilaiwan expressed her distress, having planned to make the first instalment payment that day. The bike, a blue and black Honda Wave, had been in her possession for barely a month. Despite the CCTV evidence, the culprits remain at large.

 

She appealed to the local police for swift action, keen to retrieve the motorbike vital for her family's livelihood, reported Daily News.

And, how easy is it to disable a GPS tracker? I mean, it´s an idea, but the people who steal the bikes will quickly catch up to deal with that. For a person who know, it might take 2 minute more.

Is the requirement for decent insurance when purchasing a vehicle on finance not a requirement here?

Scumbags always victimize the poor and vulnerable.

Perhaps the bike makers might like to improve their systems?

First stop, theft insurance. Most locals don't bother despite the fact that dealers will arrange it for you. This is due to the cost and cultural issues of considering insurance unnecessary.

 

Second stop, a good lock particularly if parked on the street!

This sounds like any additional expenses would cause her child to Not go to school as that is paid 2 times a year depending on school.

 

Better to pass the hat to motivate the Police a Reward if found in working condition.

 

I'm not sure if it had red plate but I feel that spotlights you to opportunistic thieves that it's a new motorbike. More desirable and valuable when passed along.

 

I do understand it is really difficult to get a replacement green book which makes it hard to transfer or sell.

Better form of charity then sending some drunk and irresponsible Brit home after throwing caution to the wind.

Can't be true, tik tok creators often say how safe Thailand is, you can leave the keys in the bike, leave your helmet on the bike, go away, it's still there when you get back... this story indicates they talk out their respective butts.

Yes you are right unfortunately so many good causes everyday to people who can least afford it. 

Off tangent slightly I bought my wife a Honda scooby about 50.000 never even occurred to me this amount would be financed other than outright but they were trying to push I looked and had to laugh at intrest unbelievable what some sign up for

In normal every financed motorbike has a insurance for stoling is insured.

I don't automatically believe her story.

A depressing story from start to finish.  I wonder where the father is.  Some guy who seemed real cool a few years ago?
