Yes, terrible income because they refuse to take passengers by metered fare while hoping to make a catch of the day finding some idiot paying their inflated fixed rates. On the other hand I've never heard grab taxi drivers complaining about their income 😁

Book him and let the court find out, if it was attempted manslaughter or attempted murder - should state an example for the rest of the taxi mafia. 

But, like everything else in this country - no/very poor law enforcement for the (usual) beneficial financial success in the law-and-order league!

For some of them it is not about the money, but an attempt to gain some superiority over someone else. A power play.

 

We see this in Thai culture often, demanding deference or respect to the person further up the food chain. 

 

Other examples of this behaviour can include gibbering on in Thai when they have a foreigner they think cannot understand in the cab, taking alternative routes other than the one requested by the passenger (because they apparently know better than the GPS or the passenger), and lewd/rapey behaviour when they have a woman in the cab.

Many Grab vehicles are taxis.   This type of incident generally does not happen because the destination and fare is agreed in advance and it will always be more than a normal taxi fare.

Whatever the reason for the quarrel, slashing a man’s face, 32 stitches, is certainly not normal anger. I’m glad to see the onlookers stepped in stop the driver disappearing.

   They stay at home and respond to calls close to them . 

If the customer is too far away, they then don't accept the job .

Why would they drive around all day waiting for a message on their phone , they may as well sit at home waiting for that message .

   No customer  will stop them when they are driving around , so it would be pointless driving around

Because it's hard to prove the meter was off once a passenger has left. In this instance if a report is made, the authorities can demand to see the video of day. If they can't produce a video it's a good as guilt. 

 

In China there are regular stops to make sure taxi drivers have their videos on. If not, they are banned .

And, it sounds like the victim will most probably carry a major scar on his face for the rest of his life. I think that there should be an extra, heavy punishment (on top of the regular 'causing injury' charge) for such an attack. I mean, one that causes permanent or long-term damage to the body.
