There was no "change" other than the announcement the existing laws would be implemented.

I thought that the original law was to tax income that was remitted in the same year that it was earned.

Can you point me to where it previously stated that savings were to be taxed?

It's not taxes, it's paperwork that annoys me.

I signed up for yearly visa extensions and 90 day reports which I don't do, just pay a fine.

I did not sign up to do annual taxes to Thai government, bill or no tax bill.

I got tired of paperwork too. The solution is simple. I pay responsible professional people to do it for me. It is a nominal fee. I have a 35 year relationship with my accountant. There will be expenses wherever you live.

Fortunately what I think is happening is that all the woke wokensteins have actually moved out of Canada to spread their gospel. It might be a decent place to live now.

nah.... had to come back here for work after 21 years in thailand. trust me wokensteins are alive and well and canada isn't better off for it. now the wokes have filled the gvt jobs with immigrants who can barely speak understandable english or french and when you call an agency for info and they answer like numbskulls they are they are quick on the trigger hanging up on you claiming you are harassing them. trust me, i dealy miss thailand and when i have finished my couple of years here i will be back for good this time. taxes or not

I know already ... no need to announce my departure. Hear me out!!!!

I was chatting with my friend from Serbia who came to visit, and she basically looked at me like I was an idiot and asked, "Why on earth are you declaring your Toronto condo rental to Canada?!" (And that was just the tip of the iceberg.) She was like, "Why bother filing taxes in Canada when you don’t even live there?!" It was a rapid-fire "Why this?" and "Why that?" like I had just invented a new form of self-sabotage.

Then I realized I'm surrounded by the same woke individuals who are desperately scrambling to file a tax return here in Thailand out of all places.

I hope Thailand implements 8 million baht retirement extension and 15 day report. You deserve it.

I'm out and I'll be watching that door thanx in advance.

Pension are definitely NOT going to be taxed  here, and it’s almost impossible just to get a tax file number, you obviously don’t know Thailand , just because a minister announces a plan, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen!

I think that depends where that 'pension' is coming from, govt or private company, and what's stated in the DTA for the source country of that pension.

Strange. Doesn't make sense.

Just for the fun of it I made a little calculation.

If there were 50000 expats in my financial situation (USD 100000 a year +/-) that would   5 Billion Baht or one percent of Thailand's GDP of 515 Billion. If we all left because of IT, a GDP drop of one percent id Mai Pen Rai for Thai politicians..

I don't think you understand what woke means, secondly I also do not understand what point you are trying to make with people who want to report here or not + what they do at the moment with their home countries.

I think many people have lived here or in SE asia so long, they have no clue how bad it is in terms of costs back home as well how bad life in general is, even if comparing it to just 5-7 years ago.

Is like you only need half the money here to live the same life as well. In a way, even taxes here are a rip off, if it could be settled for just some basic income with 15-17%, it is actually not that bad at all. Specially as you can also have tax free income here from certainl revenue flows or donate money to a wife. Try doing that back home.

You might pay less taxes back home, or get more in return from it, but you also go back to live in hell and pay 3X for anything.

I will enter mine tommorow on the PC and pay zero.

If 90 day report is too much for someone then better leave.

I am fed up with scaremongering thread Nr 999.

When will first suicide be reported?

I do nothing.

No requirement for tax return at immigration. Until then I wait

If, and I do 'if', there is to be any enforcement imo I don't think immigration will be involved. AS my bank automatically pays tax on the Interest there is obviously a route already in place...but maybe I'm wrong 'cos TIT.

Immigration would be the first to be involved as that's the only way they can check on us foreigners to leave the country. Same they would provide the data indicating someone is a tax resident or not. Use them brains...

Seems this dead forum is dominated by people who not even live here anymore. Explains all this incorrect answers too, is like people who come every year for 20 years already and compare it to being an expat. Clueless..

Well, according to others on the net, that would take a lot of time to set up and up to now immigration have been silent on the isuue. Although immigration wants proof of 800K/400K for retired expats in one account they aren't interested on income. Expats working here are already paying tax. So the logical placed for income to flagged up is the account that receives it which is on a monthly basis rather tha yearly at immigration. Since the 161/2566 tax amendment is intended for Thais transfers also immigration can't be involved there

Why would I want to pay taxes in Thailand when:

1) I live in a 2BR HOUSE with yard in a gated community paying $1,536USD a year when I can live in my old USA 1BR APARTMENT and pay $10,200USD A YEAR..

2) Pay an electric bill of $45.00USD ( average ) a month when I can pay a electric bill of $150.00+USD a month in the USA...

3) Pay a mobile bill of $18.00USD a month when I can pay $68.00USD monthly in the USA for the same service...

Pay a TV CABLE /  WiFi bill of $18.00USD when I can pay $140.00USD monthly in the USA....

4) Inflation of around 1% a year when in the USA 20%+ in the past 4 years

5) Take a taxi 20 minutes to town paying $6.00 ROUND TRIP, when I can take a 8 minute ONE WAY taxi ride in the US for $8.00.

And people say Thailand has NOTHING to offer to them?

WAKE UP !!!

Of course they are not involved yet because nothing has evolved to that stage yet. You expect that the entire immigration in the country and it's people would be informed and knowledgable about something that hasn't even effectively been implemented yet? Because something is moving with small steps forwards, since years, doesn't mean it is not happening.

This entire tax thing is not even a Thai subject alone, it is a global and WEF effort to avoid people running away from their countries to not have to pay tax, as too many do that in recent years.

It's the same where a pilot in France starts where you will be taxed for up to a decade if you were a resident there for 3 / 10 most recent years, so a quick leave can't be done anymore and is demotivated. This is planned to further roll out in the entire Europe afterwards.

Last but not least, do not forget that even technology or bureaucracy might be behind, if you have taxes due they can go back even 5 years from now. For fraud or evasion supsison even 10 years.

Then consider AI and it's capabilities, that only get worse for us. So think long-term with this stuff. It's 2025. The era and days where you could play around with this and there was a big grey area, is fading.

Wouldn't take any time to set up.  Simply ask you for a copy of, or receipt for your tax filing.

Not much difference than asking for your bank info, marriage verification, or map to imm from house.

"Where you income tax statement ? "

"No have ... extension DENIED"  :cheesy:

AND ... don't forget.  You reported or paid tax on <400k or <800k reported income.   "Extension DENIED"

"But but my agent said ...." :cheesy:

Exactly that, just for starters and in the most simplistic way. Maybe you can get a life long extension when having tax debts lol.
