What gives ?

pasted letters appear tiny

When you paste something it brings fonts with it but you can get rid of them by clicking the 'Paste as plain text instead' thing that pops up at the bottom in the black line.

I don't know why that happened to you.  I saw the tiny words in your opening post and edited your CIA looking for Russian snitches to spill the beans topic.  

 

Do you have the option of clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of your post, if so you can click on the Edit function, highlight the tiny font then and select the font size in the tool bar above;

Perhaps you have opted for a Linux OS update? It does give prior notice and advice on a solution if that is so.
