There is no visa free scheme, it is an abuse of language... Visa Free means that you could stay as long as you wish in a determined country. Thailand has a visa exemption scheme for westerners 60 days then can reapply for 30 days but no visa free scheme...

Semantics!!!!!

20k dont go real far on a 60day visa exempt entry.

Well, yes, they should make sure people show the ability to access enough money for their stay. But I highly doubt they showed even 20,000 to begin with, which might have thrown up a red flag to deny them entry.

This has nothing to do with free visas.  Just lack of enforcement of laws.   Enforce the laws and change the penalty.  Any minor infraction is visa cancellation.  No drivers license- go home. No helmet - go home. No pay- go home.  Murder or rape - atay for life.

Your version of Thailand sounds like a lot of fun.

'. A proper entry visa should be obtained in their country of citizenship prior to entering Thailand:

What a stupid idea!  I have a British passport, a country I left with my parents aged 11. I now live in the Philippines but you want me to head to the UK to get a Thai Visa? Think before you post stuff.

Let me guess. You're Russian? Ukrainian? East-German? Baltic citizen?

Did it ever occur to you that a russian would not be speaking in russian to a thai shop assistant who speaks english in a 7/11 in thailand? Please turn your braincells on before you post indignant replies to people

The problems with Russians in Phuket will not be solved very soon. And probably it will only get worse. I'm not even like to go there anymore ...

The Russians have had a visa free policy for over a year. So, how is the fairly recently changed visa free 60 days for other countries got anything to do with two Russians.   More utter nonsense.  anything that happens now is linked to the 60 day visa waiver.  I'm surprised the  recent pollution problems in Bangkok hasn't been blamed on the 60 days visa waiver by the Thais.
