Perhaps in area's outside of the main tourist hubs...   I don't think there is a general pattern that fits the whole nation. 

 

For example, when driving or riding in Bangkok - the Police are simply not interested in me, I have hardly ever been stopped at a check-point - the same can very likely be said for other area's away from tourist footfall, smaller towns etc.

 

But, there are a lot of comments from posters who live in area's such as Pattaya and Phuket which makes it obvious that the police are more 'calculated' in how they can best profit from their check-points.

Its obvious they've worked out that many 'tourists' in these area's do not have the correct licenses etc - its a very quick money earner - if YOU don't think this to be true Malcy the delusional Thai-apologist in you is once again unmistakable, no surprise there.

That was the only time I ran a police checkpoint. It was on Ratchadamri, I think, by the old Cambodian embassy. It was very exciting. Depends on the location and timing. On the road between kata and rawai around 22.00 they stop many foreigners, looking for dui and license offences. On a checkpoint like this around 01.00 DUI and weapons and drugs, many Thai are stopped.

My question was about getting rid of the party hardy guys that roam around Phuket, which these 5 Frenchmen were probably doing to run a police checkpoint.  I am just guessing they were partying,  maybe they were going to church in a hurry.   I live in Phuket and there are so many pot shops it is unbelievable.  Some open 24 hours a day.  And you can't buy booze 24 hours a day can you?  Just in Rawai on Sai Yuan Road, I counted about 30 in a short drive.  So yes, drugs and alcohol control are relevant to the story because these guys were "probably" imbibing in something.  Now I am not saying I'm against weed, but it definitely contributes to the mayhem that is prevalent in Phuket right now.   In my humble opinion.

There was no mention of drugs or alcohol on the story.

Why don't you just say that the were probable fleeing a murder or bank robbery, as that isn't suggested in the story either.
