Hard wood window replacement options (Pattaya/Sattahip area's)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone !

I'm thinking about replacing all my hardwood window frames (and possibly the doors) with something that needs less maintenance. Has anyone in the Pattaya/Sattahip areas done this, and if so, what replacement options did you go with? I'd also love to hear any personal recommendations you might have for a reliable supplier and fitting contractor.

Thanks in advance for your help!

We just drove around our area, and looked at the house builds, when they got to the glass doors & windows installation part.   Stopped and checked out the work, and when we found one we like, hired them.

We're not in your area.  All were aluminum & glass.  Strong, sturdy, not shaking or wobble, and slide nicely, or have very strong hinges.   After peeking at a few, you'll be able to feel the better quality ones.  Should have a bit of weight to them, but slide nicely.

NO PVC ... it's the tropics, and the heat & sun will eat them up.   They're cheaper for a reason.

Same as when shopping for cars, when opening, closing door, some feel solidly built, other cheap & tinny.

We're below Hua Hin, on other side of the Gulf.

Not pvc but UPVC is definitely not cheaper and lasts. Well mine has.  I have had a couple of installs going on 12 plus years.

More recently replaced another of the cheap alu framed large sliding doors with double glazed UPVC. Used ARC for the first time and was very pleased with the job they did. Not the cheapest but seems to have been worth it.

I dealt with a guy called Joe -

Johannes von Ankershoffen

In the past I used Deku but unfortunately they became less accommodating and hence the change to Arc. That was nearly 4 years ago. However Deku have/had an office on Suk next to where you come off the 7 turning south bound so you can go and see their product.

As long as not exposed to the sun, this is the tropic, and why I don't use UPVC.

And 'cheap' anything, will eventually need to be replaced.

You need to qualify that as mine have been exposed to the sun - one window all morning and one window/front/door set all afternoon - for more than 10 years......

Mine seem to handle the sun, but leaning on them with my grubby hands over the years, has left dirty marks ingrained in them.

Sunlight will affect the color, dulling, bleaching as it does to most plastics.   Where we live, it hits 40C and up often, so prefer aluminum, and not a cheap build or installation.   Like things to work hassle free.
