Info concerning calling a UK 0800 number with AIS sim card?

Featured Replies

Hi All

I've been pulling my hair out these past days concerning calling a UK 0800 number with an AIS sim card!

It's a number to contact Ebay which is 0800 358 6552 in the UK.

The info I have and I have tried many variations of it, is with AIS, to use;

003 (international calls) +44 800 358 6552.

But the call doesn't go through, I've tried without the +, added the 0 before 800 etc etc etc to no avail.

Any help is hugely appreciated.

  • Have you bought an 003 package as detailed on this page?  It seems to be a new (to me) requirement that you need a package as well as the 003 prefix.   https://www.ais.th/en/consumers/packag

Have you tried 001 44 800 358 6552?

No need for the prefix if you are going to pay full price. Just +44 in that case. In any case it's a hefty 18 baht per minute plus VAT, as compared to between  5 & 7 baht plus VAT via 003

I wonder if you'll be in a queue for ages waiting for an ebay rep to answer, could be expensive

I know that, but if "+" gets the call through while "003" doesn't, that's all that matters in the context of the OP's thread.

As far as I know 0800 numbers are only available in the UK, not internationally.

For example my bank has a 0800 number as do other companies agencies I deal with but they all provide a international number for overseas callers, alongside the UK 0800 free number.

hmm... my problem which I need advice on - is NewYork Times just scam-billed me for the next year's subscription, even though i cancelled in December. their subscription service says -'for Asia Pacific call this number in OZ - except the number is not functioning. the alternative is to call the 1-800 number in the US. someone here suggested using Skype. can you use Skype to do that?

You can still dial it in the normal way but it won’t be free.

No, it's not free. Also, before, you could top up your Skype credit and use it anytime. Now you are forced to take a package,(uk calls to landlines is £ 2 99 a month)

It IS Free for 0800 Numbers in The U.K I Only call those Numbers ALL The Time with NO Credit..... Now you are forced to take a package,(uk calls to landlines is £ 2 99 a month)...NOT For 0800 Numbers You Ain't

Can you actually phone 0800  numbers from Thailand? I have had problems in the past with 0800 numbers. UK credit and debit cards specifically list a non 0800 number for callers from outside the UK.

Tried this variation and doesn't work.

If you cannot use Skype and want to use a call from any phone, set up an account with app.mytello.com/en and setup a connection to the number(s) you require. They will allocate a Bangkok number for you to dial from any phone number you register for a usage charge of 0.4 baht per minute, so a small additional cost to a call to Bangkok.

My post was regard to your use of 001 when it is not necessary. The 18 baht + VAT cost is another thing. But it's obvious that the OP was entering the number wrongly in the first place.

If you still have a UK mobile number, register an account with https://www.localphone.com

The 0800 number is a free call with them via their application. Best to sign up via PC as a U.K. customer and only then sign into any mobile application.

Yes, including the number the OP is trying to call.  I just tried it, answered after 1 ring, "Hi....welcome to Ebay....".  The OP is dialling it wrong.

It's a non-Internet based solution for people who don't have Smartphones. They are given a local number which connects to the International number. Same MO as Localphone. But Localphone doesn't have local numbers in Thailand, so you have to use their application.

Which method did you use and from where?

I tried using a couple of Apps. Neither charge.

The call gets routed through the internet starting locally......
