Sin city: Brit beaten by furious Thai bar girls over unpaid bill (video)

It's been awhile since I was in a go-go but I recall most of the ones I visited had signs all over the walls mentioning how much "lady drinks" cost and what "ringing the bell" meant.

(It used to be that "ringing the bell" meant every person in the bar got a free drink regardless and many would take advantage of a bell ringer by ordering the most expensive stuff available, knowing it was unlikely the bell ringer would realize it until too late.)

A lot of bars changed it to either just the "dancers on stage" or "just the staff". Some even have 2 "bells" (or a bell and a siren).

That must have really killed the "balloon chaser" crowd who would (literally) patrol the bar areas looking for places putting up loads of balloons, indicating that a party was going to happen there that night.
And the parties almost always included a lot of food - and a lot of bell ringing.

I stopped having my birthday parties at the old FLB bar when I found out the manager would put out the word to all his buddies so they could come to his bar for a free night of food and drink - at my expense.

Years later, a guy I sort of knew (friend of a friend) bought the go-go bar in the Center Condo complex and named it the "Wet & Wild A-go-go".
It never did a lot of business due to it's out of the way location and lack of advertising. But they always had 15-20 attractive ladies and 5-6 staff.
And "ringing the bell" bought the staff a shot of tequila, which was only 90 baht (and it really was tequila, not water).
So on a "full night" when they had all the normal staff working, ringing the bell would cost you about 2,400 baht.

And they would put your name in letters on one of the large mirrors around the sides of the club.
I'm not saying I drank a lot or rang the bell a lot - but by the time the club was closed (when the cops found out how the owner was really making his money) I had 3 full rows on that mirror. (And dear old dad had his name up there 9 times as well the randy 75 year old bugger !)

But I always knew what the cost was for the lady drinks and the staff would bring the new bin and show me how much it was so I knew the new total.

In some clubs they gave you individual bins with each drink order and then totalled them when you were ready to leave (hence the "check bin" phrase - check the bins and total them).

More updated clubs used computerized printouts and they'd bring a new, updated (and longer) bin with each new drink order so you knew the new total right away.

I've never seen them not give someone a bin or purposely keep the bin cup by the cashier to hide it from the customer. Sounds like a load of crap to me.

And whenever you see a case where there were 2 or more people involved but the other "friend(s)" left beforehand and were waiting outside - it's often a failed attempt to scam out of paying the bar tab.

2 guys drink, one guy leaves. The other guy pretends to get a phone call and starts walking away "distracted" by the call and "forgets" to pay his bill or "forgets" which bar he was in.

I've actually WATCHED people try to do that. Some even tried to leave an (empty) cigarette pack and (dead) lighter on the table as "proof" they meant to come back. (I've seen service staff immediately check the cigarette pack and alert the guys at the door to stop someone from leaving - they've seen it all before many times.)

Remember the case on Soi 6 when "security" put the boots to that guy ? Same thing, he'd been drinking with "friends" and they left before him. Then he tried to leave without paying, claiming he wasn't paying their bills (or was it he claimed one of the other guys had already paid the bill which was BS).

All those "newbies" arriving everyday and a lot of them seem to think they know a sure-fire way to party all night for free. And probably got away with it a few times "back home".

And think that the locals in Thailand won't be smart enough to figure out what they are doing until it's too late.
And the "locals" are beating them with their high heels and manishly large feet.

Why is it mainly the westerners do this, where are the Chinese men? Where are the other tourists?

The Chinese rarely use the bars, tight b+st+rds.

Where would we be without the Daily Mail?

This is the 2nd Mail story in a week that is offensive to Pattaya.  How did they get the CCTV footage?

Chinese are too busy running their scams and whatnot. No time for this kind of silliness.

Do you see Japanese and Chinese at the girly bars, not even remember russians floating around the red light district, but to be true, it is soon 10 years ago I want for a night out once or twice to the bars for a night out.

Fail to see how any person would've needed a beating for that "offence" - are you condoning violence over ignorance or what's the spiel?!

What you apparently fail to see is that it is the bargirls who have to pay the bill for whatever amount  the customer refuses to accept. In this case I gather the customer was also very loud and very rude.

3 times i haven't be able to pay the bar bills in Bangkok.Could pay some amount but missed to have cash enough for the rest is of the bill.No argying at all We just agree to let one of the ladies go with me to my hotel near by where i had cash in the hotel safe .Paid the rest of the bill.. problem solved.Happends again in another bar,.the lady went with me up to bang na with skytrain. When we arrived my apartment we agree to have some fun before we went back to the bar .So we did and she get paid too for her excellent service. We went back to the bar and everybody happy. The last time they came knocked my door the day after i been to the bar.

I invited the collecter inn and she explained and showed me the bill It was about 1100 baht.

I said ok.. no problem.Well..guess what happened before she left and it had to go 1000 baht more.

If u dont have enough cash with u dont start a fight.Stay calm and try to find a solution to pick up the cash at ur place to stay.

Yes, at least I am condoning the violence here, which was basically nothing. He deserved much more.

The worst beating I have seen in Thailand was administered to two South Koreans on Soi Cowboy, about 20 years ago, in the early evening before dusk.

The whole street went savage on them a lot worse than what happened here.

I watched from the outdoor area of Shark Bar with a beer in my hand. I bought the bouncers that knocked one of them out a beer.

Japanese have their own areas in Ekkamai in Bangkok and Sriracha on the Eastern Seaboard for example. They don't want to mix with us.

South Koreans treat Thai women appallingly. I play golf regularly at Green Valley, and they treat the caddies worse than dogs.

I fell asleep drunk in Rawhide bar on Soi Cowboy once, and they padded my bill by 3-4,000thb. The girls helped themselves to tequila shots.

You've got to keep your wits about you in bars and business in Thailand. Both are full of thieves, conmen, and liars. Foreign and domestic.

You sounds like a fine gentleman yourself, and deserves better.

Did they serve you breakfast?

After getting beat with stilettos being repeatedly smashed  into your forehead, getting whacked with a pool cue ain't much of an escalation.

A British tourist was beaten with high heels and thrown out of a Thai bar by furious female workers after refusing to settle his tab.

The middle-aged holidaymaker and his friend were treating a group of young women to drinks at a bar in Pattaya, Thailand’s infamous nightlife hub, when the night took a violent turn.

The man allegedly refused to pay the full bill, which included a 50% markup on the women’s drinks, sparking a furious reaction from both the bar staff and the women.

Chaotic footage from inside the bar captures the yet-to-be-named British man being pinned to the floor as several women aggressively demand payment.

In a brutal assault, they remove their stilettos and repeatedly smash them into his forehead before slapping and kicking him.

One woman is heard shouting, “Take the money from his pocket!” as another reaches for a pool cue, seemingly ready to escalate the violence.

Bleeding from a head wound, the stunned tourist struggles to his knees and pleads, “Why are you being nasty? Why are you being nasty?”

A concerned bystander steps in, trying to defuse the situation, urging the enraged women to calm down while physically restraining one of them. Meanwhile, a female bar manager in a black dress aggressively orders the Brit out, yelling, “Get the <deleted> out of my bar! Do you want more beating?”

As the battered tourist stumbles out, the owner delivers a final insult, screaming, “<deleted> off!”

“I felt sorry for him because he was hurt but he must respect women when he comes to bars. This is our job.”

Pattaya, once a quiet fishing village, transformed into a booming nightlife hotspot in the 1950s when it became a favourite for US troops on leave. Today, it remains notorious for its wild party scene, where incidents like this are far from rare.

Buying girls drinks which contain no alcohol is notorious, you can't blame the man for complaining.

A girl asked me to buy her drinks in soi 80 so I said OK I get the drink you stay here, I got her several double jack Daniels I made sure they were strong, she was <deleted> faced in one hour, value for money.

In Germany the police through you out of girl bars if you don't buy drinks for girls that just come along and sit next to you unenvited.
