Well, I have a degree in music and it never occured to me to start "teaching" or "performing" without a work permit.

 

These rules existed before I set my foot in Thailand and I respect them

Ok, somebody called to local Police office. They sent "dream team" to investigate the "tip" and return with bunch of foreigners. Them were detained, passports "arrested".

Next - the chef of the office accused them of working "illegally". And then "The Fun" began!
 

Somebody decided that they are guilty (already, overnight investigation) of breaking Thai Labor Law and sentenced them to get boot. (early morning court?)

 

What a swift justice! (sure-sure)

That would make sense if you were right, unfortunately you're not, it is an offence.  Having a Thai invite someone on stage doesn't make it ok, they don't give a fck.

Imagine if they targeted all the clubs, raves, and festivals around Thailand. Just Bangkok would be crazy with all the foreign DJs playing and flying in to play.

That would depend on who is writing on the paper, and how the info on the paper is set out?

It is not an abuse of power, it is enforcement of that law, made by adults that do have that power.

Yes, they were.

I lived in Pai for a while many, many years ago. About the time they started bringing in outside agents to target the tourists.  Now with pot being legalized looks like it is a European frat house atmosphere. Thai rip offs and cons in Pai were always ramped in Pai. Hippy drug culture of years gone by taken over by greedy Thai's.  Pai has been doing this kind of stuff for decades.  Same old story different venue.  10-1 these guys were coming in to cash in on the European kids and the drug culture in Pai. And to get high in the process. Thai musicians are probably flocking to Pai for the bucks they make on the Euro kids. These guys show up and upset the apple cart. Thai musicians are pissed that they come in and are taking away their cash cow.

In almost 30 years and well over 1000 concerts I have never once seen foreigners invited on stage by Thai bands, when and where did you see this?

People complaining about how this guy was detained are the first to do this to immigrants in their home country.
