Thailand Cracks Down: Police to Monitor Foreign Nationals Closely

Thailand’s national police chief, Police General Kitrat Panphet, has directed police forces across the nation to heighten surveillance of foreign nationals amid escalating concerns over public order and safety. This new measure, announced on 17 February, stems from reports of foreign visitors’ conduct that disrupts social harmony, violates public morals, and potentially damages Thailand's reputation.

The directive requires all policing units, including the Metropolitan Police, Provincial Police, Immigration, Tourist Police, and Border Patrol, to prioritise the matter.

The move follows troubling incidents, notably in Pai, Mae Hong Son, where local businesses recently refused service to Israeli nationals. This decision arose after reports of inappropriate behaviour by some Israeli tourists, who allegedly verbally abused medical staff and threatened property damage at a local hospital.

Adding to the concern, a Facebook video depicting intoxicated foreigners harassing female restaurant owners went viral, fanning online safety fears.

General Kitrat has instructed law enforcement in Mae Hong Son to investigate these incidents thoroughly and report back within a week. The police are earnest in ensuring Thailand remains safe and hospitable for all its visitors, reported The Thaiger.

Lets face it, the government want (need) the money.

With mass tourism comes certain issues which you simply have to deal with - or ban them all from coming.

It's a trade off

But that's foreigners taking 5% of Thai jobs by your reckoning.

Let me guess your age. 83.

The real bad boys are Thais, not foreigners.

This is just classic Thai, Blame game,  Smoke and Mirrors.

Thailand is very happy to rip it's tourists off and grab as much money from them as possible.

But when a little bit of trouble comes with the massive money grab, they cry like little babies and splash it all over the news. bad, foreigners.

All amounting to a massive.

TIT.

It does not matter.

I believe that most national newspapers around the world report more crimes from foreigners in their country than they will of the indigenous population!

it is human nature after all!

Again, you are completely wrong dear Scottie. Most developed nations downplay, or downright hide crime commited by their immigrants. All part of the politically correct to-not-offend policies. In Thailand it is 100% opposite.

Yes and no. Thais have always ripped off tourists but there are some real dropkick tourists which seems to be increasing. I guess there are simply more idiots these days and more of these idiots travel. As for social harmony a few buses of Chinese tourists will see this disrupted wherever they pull up.

All apart from the UK where the opposite is true.

No, just get the correct tourists..

Mass cheap Charlie tourists in there millions makes TAT believe they are doing a good job.

However, halve the numbers and get the high class tourist spending is the way to go.

You won't see millionaires pissed and fighting in the streets.

But then what will the bars and Go-Go's do,

Thailand caters to what it's entertainment offers.  Sun, Sea, booze & Sex

What next? Threaten to close all borders?  Intensely screen all foreign arrivals, conduct interrogation, conduct a full body search to check for tatoos etc?  Realistically any place that depends on tourism has to accept a certain percentage of "bad apples".  Also, "never kill the goose that laid and continues to lay the golden egg".  Also, is this just "PR" and no real change will occurr.

In Sweden most rapes are committed by non-Swedes, but if you report that fact you might get thrown in jail there.

Good morning 🙏,  Seems like slight profiling to me !!??

How about focusing on Community and Road safety ,Many babies driving motorcycles no helmets or more then 2 on a motorcycle?? 🙂 Or ungodly loud music disturbing people's sleep for school, Work and Retirement in villages or having to watch for drunk drivers on the roads  Some of these suggestion seem logical and make sense 🙂

Maybe more beneficial then a authoritarian or profiling way of approaching things  🙂

any tourists behaving badly should do community service.

make them take the soi dogs to the vet and pay for it.

That's too simple. The reason for those upcoming complaints is the quality of foreigners/tourists in the country.

If you invite low class people you will get low class behaviour.

Stricter Visa regulations must. Border bouncing is a problem

At present everybody can enter Thailand even with almost  no money in their pockets.

So it's the paradise for criminals.

Deportation and jail time will help  to keep riffraff out.

Another excuse to bring back the Sukhumvit Road pedestrian stops, urine tests in the local petrol station, nightclub raids, blah blah blah blah.

Let me guess your age, mature with a juveline outlook.

Seems you think extreme bad behaviour is ok, is that right?

You also seem to think the "money grab" as you call it justifies bad behaviour, is that right?

When Thailand wants mass tourism with free pass for all kind of stramge people, some things will go wrong some times, but not even near all the time! Are the Thais pancaking now? If someone behave like a damn monkey, then just arrest them, deport them! Not sound like there is a terror attack going on! 😆😆

The only people who damage the reputation of Thailand are the the Thai people themselves... The more they complain about foreigners the less attractive the country is becoming as a tourist destination. Thai people blaming foreigners but don't see their own xenophobic behavior, with laws and rules that chase foreigners away. Even expats and longstay visaholders are leaving. Thailand is destroying its own economy by being too conservative
