I wouldn't bet on anything Trump will do or not do.

But withing NATO allies there is this obligation - at least on paper.

I do care about Ukraine and her courageous people it absolutely sucks they have to man the trenches to repel that reptile putin.with trump being a putin asset it’s time for Europe to hold the line unfortunately with the betrayer in chief in the whitehouse for now we cannot help hopefully it’s temporary.

That's what we though last time. Like, they can't possibly be so stupid to vote again for that guy...

Unfortunately, I think the Europe American divide is so large that Europe first has to learn to defend themselves. And maybe after they did that, decades later, the relation to the USA might improve again. But I wouldn't bet on that. The USA is on the way down and desperate people do desperate things.

In a nice and fair world Russia would not have invaded Ukraine.

And in a nice and fair world Russia should give back all the land they occupied and give reparations to Ukraine.

But this world is not fair.

Now Trump and Putin talk about economy and how to end this war and make some profitable deal for both leaders. And nobody asks Ukraine.

That is obviously not nice and not fair and all that. But at the end of the day who expects that this world is fair?

Is it better to have no war and maybe no Ukraine anymore?

I am interested how people will vote here, anonymous.

Obviously, you can explain in a post how you voted and why. But you don't have to.

I think many of us want a fair solution. But at the end of the day how many of us know someone in Ukraine and really care?

What is your opinion?

All one really needs to do is study the history of the Soviet Union, then that of Russia.  Border countries were required by Russia to give up their nuclear weapons in exchange for a guarantee by Russia that they would invade or bother those border countries in the future.  BUT, looking at what has transpired,it is just the opposite.  None of the border countries would have even considered attacking Russia. But all have some fertile lands, valuable assets within those countries that Russia wants so Russia also knows how "weak" US leaders really are and most EU countries too have gotten weaker instead of stronger since WWII in my opinion.  I am not a war monger by any means, I spent 10 years of my late teen and 20's involved in the VIetnam  conflict, inlcuding over 3 years in that theater getting shot at regularly.  Whether or not I agree with that conflict, is besides the point - I voluteered for the military and accepted  what they trained me to do.  I have spent more time living and working outside the US than inside the US and recognize that not a whole lot of folks might agree with my political views.  But like all of them, I accept that there are alwaus differences, especially due to our backgrounds and exeperiences in life.  I am 78 years old and definitely set  in my beliefs.

It is less about US leaders being weak, but more about the current president being a bought and paid for Russian asset.

It is certainly a possibility that Putin tells Trump what to do. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Trump just doesn't think and act like a normal human being. And it seems most of the time he has no idea about future consequences of his actions and/or he just doesn't care.

Maybe Trump just thinks he will get the rare earth from Ukraine and let Putin does whatever he wants. And I am pretty sure many Americans couldn't care less what happens in Ukraine or Europe. It's so far away and all that.

Why should the people of the USA be on the hook to defend Europe?   Europe needs to start pulling their own weight

The reality is that Ukrainians living in the Russian areas will experience a higher GDP per capita and a better quality of life than those who live in the rest of Ukraine.

That's not an endorsement of Putin.  I's a statement of fact, based on widely available data.  Russia's economy was better, and though it's corrupt, it's less corrupt than Ukraine.

It's like if the USA invaded Baja Mexico.  The inhabitants would see a massive improvement in their quality of life.  But that doesn't mean I advocate an invasion.

Higher GDP perhaps, but higher quality of oife? You make assumptions about how wealth is distributed in Russia, and how you measure "quality of life". The GDP per head in Macau is $140,000. When are you upping sticks and moving to China, because apparently you will have a better quality of life there

Wealth in Russia is not well distributed

The research, carried out by Alexander Surinov, the former head of Rosstat and now director of HSE’s Centre for Economic Measurement and Statistics, alongside his colleague Sergei Kuzin. The results show that there are nearly twice as many relatively affluent Russians as previously thought, further exacerbating the nation’s income disparity, and that two thirds (66%) of Russian made under RUB40,000 ($415) a month, less than the national average wage of RUB70,000 ($725).

At the moment, Moscow is colonising the occupied areas with Russians, offering cheap loans only to people from outside the Donbass.

Not really it's sad then many things are sad 6 million have died in the Congo in the biggest genocide since WW2 and no one really cares about that. I'm a Brit on an island with nukes. I would prefer if we stopped pretenidng we rule the world any more and looked after ourselves. Switzerland has done well by staying out of wars we could do the same. Let the water find it's own level in the slav lands far away, what will be will be.

Mr Trumpf hasn't been told that the Congo is full of "rare" earth minerals.

Switzerland didn't exactly stay out of WW2. They did well by essentially keeping the Nazis in power.

No, he's not unutual. He thinks like a lot of people, including "normal" people, and that's the problem. The cream hasn't risen to the top. He's a populist, which got him elected. He's not a Statesman. He's a normal stupid person, and they are not unusual or extraordinary.

How far Russia is depends on the map,

It isn't on the hook. It's why it stepped in in 1942. If dictators aren't stopped they will take everything.

In principle I agree with that.

But there is a better way to initiate this than with a wrecking ball.

You really believe Trump understands anything about strategic minerals? It is all about sound bites and joining the dictators club to stroke his ego.

He's already in it. He now calls himself King, wears a pin of his own image. What's next? Statues of him everywhere? One of his cult in congress is pushing a national holiday for his birthday while he's alive.

If he wants to annex Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal, it's not as if he can square that with opposing Putin's imperialistic actions.

yessir you are correct...my personal feeling on Trump is that he is 100% inside his own self thoughts when making ANY decisions and really dangerous for the world when in his current position.  I am sure he feels that Putin will determine how quickly they will end the war and then Trump will tell the  Ukrainians what he wants for making ?peace? for them.  He is a total idiot, raised with that silver spoon stuck in his throat which may have caused brain damage and at least then he could get a tad sympathy from non-MAGAites.  You are totally correct in that most Americans don't think much of any other country in the world, only thinking about 10-15 miles from where they live and where many haven't lived anywhere else even within the US.

As I said before. Idiots exists all over the world. But in most countries people don't vote for those idiots to become their leader.

Over 70 million Americans voted for Trump, and they can't really say he was hiding his character. I blame them all.
