Support for Zelensky surges in Ukraine

After Trump's two lies about Zelensky yesterday: namely only 4% of Ukrainians support Zelensky, plus Zelensky himself  started the war, support within the country has soared for its President.

Get real kids - The war is being scaled down by Russia and the US, and Ukraine and the EU are spectators because in reality, Ukraine and the EU want endless war and want the strategic defeat of Russia as does the US Neo-cons and the US Left.  The Trump administrations wants a return to sanity. If Zelinsky was smart, he's be making plans for retirement in London or at one of his many villas in the EU, and enjoy the graft he siphoned off of the top of the "foreign aid."  Or hang on to power and find out.

They're not all Americans, just left or anti Trumpers in general

Here's reality.  If you're an EU elite, a Neo-con, a US pro-war Leftie, or Zelinsky?  Read 'em and weep.  There's a new sheriff in town and his name is Donald J. Trump and the game is up.
Ukraine has lost the war, NATO is a lost cause, and European Union is in for a voter wake-up call.  Well, unless they go Full-Zelinsky and ban elections in order to "save democracy."  :glare:  Big Daddy Warbucks and his administration won't be happy.

He was elected democratically.

It is suicide to change horses mid race when the guy in charge is doing a good job.

Any election now would have major outside interference (as shown already by the two dictators - Putin and his poodle).

The Ukrainians want him there.

Other should butt out with their crass comments.

As already mentioned to you many times, the constitution forbids elections when the country is under martial law.

But don't let facts get i:biggrin:n the way of a good Russian/MAGA story!

More B.S. from you.

According to the constitution there can be no election when the country is under martial law ( for reasons you can easily guess)!

Why does Trump support Russia?

Lewis makes four important points.

1. Misinformation, Maga cultists are radicalised by lies from the Kremlin and their Maga supporters.

2. Trump etc have the same ideology as Putin. They like he's an autocrat, a traditionalist, anti liberal. Note Vance's support for the far right AFD.

3. Trump sees financial opportunities if peace is made with Russia.

4. Geopolitics. Trump dislikes China and wants to wean Russia away from China to form an alliance with the USA.

Suuuure! When the country is under assault by Russia  canceling martial law is the thing to do, just because Trump is diffusing Russian propaganda! 55555

(Not to mention the lack of practicality of voting under Russian bombs, and when a large share of the population has been displaced in Ukraine or abroad, or is busy fighting outside their usual location)

BTW, the Ukrainian parliament voted to delay elections.

Russia held elections.

Donbass and Crimea held elections.

Why do you hate democracy so?

Why can't you understand that the Ukrainian constitution forbids holding elections under martial law,  and that martial law is necessary because Ukraine is assaulted by Russia?

That's fine.

Support surges.

But....

Does it even matter?

Are you a Russian bot? Putin has never held free and fair elections since he came to power. The opposition candidates are handpicked. Indeed, one of them described Putin as a great leader on his own campaign trail? Russia has never been a democracy, it is a kleptocracy, run by criminals.

Everyone, apart from you, knows that elections in Russia are fake.

Trump is forcing Zelenskyy to remain in office. If  Ukrainians are given a choice of endorsing Zelenshkyy or  being bullied by Trump, they will hold their noses and  support Zelenskyy.

Ukraine can't hold an election because a large part of the country is  occupied by Russia and/or at risk of being bombed should an election be held. Russia would also attempt to sabotage the election.

The USA was under existential threat from the Axis in the '40s and we still held elections.

Are you claiming the guy who declared martial law is capable of holding off elections as long as he wishes?   And that's okay?

In recent history, they referred to that guy as Fuhrer.  I wonder what the Ukrainian translation is.

Well, maybe if he was Donald Trump, he would call an election. Because to do that, he would have to violate the Ukrainian Constitution which specifically says elections can't be held while martial law is in effect.

How on Earth can they possibly hold elections in the middle of a war? The logistics of doing so make it all but impossible. It is also a well known fact that Russia has interfered with Ukraine's elections in the past in order to promote their favoured candidate and I'm sure they're not above doing so again.

And just for the record, Winston Churchill suspended elections during WW2 for similar logistical and disruptive reasons.
