Shocking Incident in Jomtien: Man Chases Tourist, with Large Knife

What's the culturally appropriate thing to do in this situation should I hit the guy with the knife with my car or should I blame the tourist as he obviously must have done something to upset this concerned local? 😲

Or should I just take a picture of it and share it on social media for likes? 🔪 📱

Walk away and forget it.

The culturally appropriate thing to do in this situation is, don't be a hero and mind your business, you're not batman, be smart, stay out of jail and stay alive.

Agree.

Watched the video and it looks like the farang was stuffing something into his pockets. Probably just robbed the Thai.

lots of Thai nut jobs out there

How do you know the man with the knife was Thai? He was wearing a helmet and full clothing.. The Op says it was a Thai man. But nothing in the video shows his nationality. As well, nothing in the OP shows it was a Thai man. The story guesses it was since what foreigner would be running after another foreigner with a long blade such as the one shown in the video. Even the police have not stated they are seeking a Thai man. Presumptuous to say the least

How does she know he was a tourist. He may be working, retired or have Thai citizenship.

I don't suppose he came home early and found the foreigner in bed with his wife and daughter?

In that case, let him go.

Are you saying you experience all of the above regularly.? Or you just read about them somewhere.

I think you do not know the area very well and would be best off continuing to stay away.

Thai man is being Thai man.

Ever watch Amarin TV, nothing new here.  Again it is targeted, I'm sure the Thai man didn't wake up saying I feel like going for a jog through traffic with a big knife and scare some foreigners.

Which things don't happen?

Who knows what actually happened.

My guess is some Thai comes home from work and finds Farang in bed with wife and hilarity ensues.

It's all a misunderstanding,  the thai was chopping up fish when he noticed the foreigner drop his wallet, as he yelled to warm him the foreigner bolted, so he picked up the wallet and chased after him to return it.😀

Yes answer a question with a question. I have spent in total well over ten years in Pattaya and of your list I have witnessed two fights, seen ladies patrolling Beach Rd, and know people who have been accosted by ladyboy thieves. Other things exist but like yourself I have no experience of them. Don't go to Pattaya if you dislike it so much.

Looked like the guy running away had something in his hand.  Perhaps he stole from the delivery driver without paying.

Nut jobs in any country, don't just blame Thailand. If you take away the road behaviour, I think you will find the average Thai's are pretty decent.

? - I read in some govt communication that pattaya is a family resort. Did I misunderstand something?

I'm certainly not justifying the actions of this guy, but he was likely provoked in some manner. I think very few of us have ever been chased by a Thai with a machete. I normally find most Thais to be quite decent people, as long as they are treated with kindness and respect.

But it would seem that the worst of the worst seem to be found in Pattaya, and I think next in line would be Phuket and Samui. These are areas where the local people become quite jaded with tourists, and are exposed to a lot of tourists who were unruly and obnoxious.

Pattaya is starting to resemble GTA computer game 🙈

Yes....  Clearly it was the foreginers fault that the Thai man was carrying a large knife.

If there were no foreigners to potentially offend this kind Thai gentleman, there would be no need for him to carry such a weapon as self defence...  :whistling:

Sarky.

Absolutely - in response to the outright stupidity of trying to pin blame on a foreigner who being chased by a guy who 'just happens' to be carrying around a weapon.

Must have been worse than that...   the Thai must have been repeatedly provoked and attacked previous.....

After all, it was clearly essential for him to be carrying around a 10" hunting knife on his daily business...  (nothing mentally unhinged about a person carrying a huge knife around at all)... :whistling:

[yes, kinnok, sarky again]

Agreed....     but if someone is carrying such a weapon, is it as self defence, or as a threat ????

Seems to me, those prepared to chase after a person with such a weapon do so because they have a very short fuse and look to be outraged / upset / or for a reason to have such a response...

Whether the UK, Thailand or anywhere else - those carrying weapons which can so readily be lethal ought to be deal with by authorities with the most extreme of contempt.

And a lot of 'gone native' mentally disturbed foreigners attempt to defend them and blame the 'farang' against all logic....  yet when its a Thai on Thai issue, they are strangely silent !!!
