When I go to the bank they always look at my passport and make a picture of my Visa stamp or whatever I don’t understand or you wanna rent a place where you stay at a hotel they ask for your passport that always look for your stamps I don’t understand how I can get away for 25 years without having somebody check for his stamps in his passport TIT

I really would like to get a picture, a face shot, of the old geezer. They arrested him on Ragang RD. One article states, living nearby. Wonder if he was in the warrens between that Ragang & Kad Kom market?! Always assumed it was mainly Russkies back there, but a scofflaw Brit. Yeah it fits. Back route from my old condo to the moat & CM gate market, if he didn't hunker inside, good chance I saw him.

BTW There was a Korean who clocked in with a 26 (?) year overstay out of Lom Sak, Petchaboon. He still holds the record AFAIK, but being Korean, not given star treatment by the Thai media.

Would seem to bolster the argument that hiding out in the anonymity of urban areas is the best strategy. I don't think he would have been able to get away with overstaying that long if he had been out in the countryside.

He probably only renewed his passport because the government wanted ID for Sim cards.

I doubt it, but wonder if he has any Thai family.

Yes true, Here 21 years have renewed my passport twice  and they only look at my picture and UK details, 1st time had to apply to HK only needed copy of my detail page

Looks like immigration have egg all over there face on this one did someone snitch him up at least he has supported the local economy for many many years just proves the 90 day report and the TM 30 are not fit for purpose and I bet there are many more like him !

Been here 20 years the only time I’ve shown my passport is to the IO always use my Thai pink ID card and Thai drivers license!

He lived in Bangkok for 13 years, later moving to Chiang Mai for another 12..

Even in case of the occasional onboard inspection(during long distance bus trip), the inspectors only see the passport cover.

 

In case of the people from the 1st world, they rarely turn passport pages to check aliens' visa validity.

You can say that about any police force anywhere in the world after any crime has been committed. So many fugitives from so many countries somehow managed to get out of their respective countries and come to Thailand, Cambodia, South America or wherever they think they have a good chance of not getting caught.

And your point is?

well,   he saved spending thousands of baht  on Visa re-newals,  new passports,  transport & whatever else associated with visas. 

They should be more concerned with the scumbags arriving here everyday,rather than some guy minding his own business on an overstay
