Thailand is considering creating designated zones for alcohol consumption to cater to certain tourists, a move highlighted by the Public Health Minister. With an expected 35 million visitors this year, the government aims to enhance the tourist experience without conflicting with religious principles.

At a recent meeting of the National Alcohol Beverage Policy Committee, members discussed balancing tourism growth with health guidelines. The year has already shown success in tourism revenue, but some visitors are calling for more relaxed alcohol rules.

The minister emphasized creating drinking areas that respect cultural values while supporting tourism. The committee decided to maintain the five key Buddhist holy days as alcohol-free, focusing instead on popular tourist spots for these adjustments.

The Health Minister assured that health concerns are being considered, aligning with ministry guidelines. However, identifying specific locations for alcohol sales will be handled by other departments, reported The Thaiger.

"Certain tourist?"  Get real.  That means all farangs.  You can live here married to a Thai woman for decades and as far as the Thai government and Immigration are concerned - you ARE a tourist.  On the flip-side, I know where to get alcohol if I want it any day of the year, any time of day as do most long-stay expats, and unlike most tourists.

This translates as - brown envelopes please.

'some visitors are calling for more relaxed alcohol rules.'

This means many others want these restriction laws to continue......

Or lazy, don't upset anyone journalism,  so typical here.

If you have a point to make, make it!

Can't let a stupid thing like your values and what you believe get in the way of your God.

It's kind of like how it would be a sin to put down a dangerous dog that killed a child but then you eat deep fried chicken every morning for breakfast.

Hahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Fair play.

You get to double- or triple-charge foreigners for entry fees, we get to drink 24-hours/day.

Warsaw ghetto, Auschwitz would not be appropriate to this or most any topic (at least, I hope, maybe you know more?).

One foot in, one foot out.

A bar with Keith Moon, Oliver Reed, Richard's Harris and Burton could be joined by Georgie Best and Lee Marvin and have good profits from their higher prices. But the behavior  would not be what you seem to be aiming for.

Most Brits are just quietly enjoying their well deserved holiday. Enough fun taxes already.

Thais drink the most though.

They tend to drink spirits. The British benidorm crew drink larger.

Might as well put foreigners in a cage and put them on display with a "do not poke" sign

Designated areas, WTF is this even supposed to mean? That you now plan to treat tourists as jews during world war 2 by telling them they can't have alcoholic beverages outside their areas? Jesus christ.

I really thought Thailand was changing for the better finally since a small year, in terms of the tax story going quiet, the visa's being easier again. And now we litteraly just get the same BS AGAIN. Time to open up the relocation plan bookmarks folder again. These people are nazi's.

I like the idea. Put a cordon around and a truck for deportation. And some nice videos for the beloved at home 😂😂😂

Soon you need to apply for a EAC to be able and drink outside designated tourist areas. It is called the Expat Alcohol Card.

Do people really struggle to go withoput alcohol just for a few days of the year?

Will they have any zones outside 7 elevens?

or are those areas only going to be allowed for locals.

Headline sounds like from a Muslim country.

Drinking ghettos for the disbelievers.

It has nothing to do with alcohol neither it is 'just a few days', you have no idea how many proper days business owners lose alone. Not to mention tourists coming over for X days in particular cities to then find them as dead zones due to this.

All while none of us are even 'buddhists' and even locals know their ways to get it, most local places will even sell it as if nothing happens as soon you are out of the bigger city or centers.

Last but not least, the repeatedly focus on 'tourists and alcohol' being the issue rather than Thais killing each other on the roads with 20k deaths a year. Or the fact that most domestic abuse and debts come from lao kao behavior on farms.

Man, I would smash these politicians, you not even need to prepare for any debate. They are like kids. They can barely think on a 3D level let alone a 4D or 5D level which they are supposed to do. No wonder they fear any new wind arriving.
