In a shocking turn of events at Watjunprasit School, Ban Phai district, 13-year-old Khon Kaen student Oam has been relocated for his safety after repeated assaults by a fellow student, 16-year-old Lek, due to a broken vaping device. This incident has spurred heightened scrutiny over teenage e-cigarette use and prompted Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to demand aggressive action against illegal vape sales.

Reports surfaced when videos showing the assaults circulated, leading to a decisive meeting involving school officials to move Oam to a secure boarding school. Oam's mother, deeply concerned and preparing to leave their home, supported the relocation for her son's protection and rehabilitation.

The issue has further exposed the growing challenge of illegal e-cigarette circulation among teenagers. In a recent meeting at Government House, Minister Jiraporn Sindhuphrai announced that over 666 individuals had been arrested and significant quantities of vaping products seized, demonstrating the government's commitment to tackling this rising problem.

Additionally, details about Lek's troubled past, including drug use and aggression, highlight the broader social issues intersecting with this incident. Oam’s sudden change of school and home aims to offer him a fresh start and rid him of vaping influence, while emphasizing the broader implications of teenage e-cigarette consumption and attending risks, reported The Thaiger.

Why was the 16 year old Lek not arrested and kicked out of school?

Send him into a boot camp in US

Am I alone in having difficulty getting my mind around this?

Interesting table of goodies for a story about one broken vape. Vapes, what looks like cigs, booze, lighters one wonders what else is on show here. Sex toys maybe? All for messaging just how terrible vaping is.

This is ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS.

A tiny trivial incident between a couple of kids at school, ALLEGEDLY caused by a broken vape, is enough to get THE LEADER OF THE COUNTRY TO MAKE A PROCLAMATION OF A CRACK DOWN!

Meanwhile the kids are SMOKING CARCINOGENIC CIGARETTES in the bathroom.    And if their lungs fall out 20 years from now because they have been forced to smoke CARCINOGENIC CIGARETTES by their fascist, corrupt, self serving, tyrannical leaders,   these people couldn't shred a single crocodile tear.

But if kids even say the word VAPE, let alone participate in vaping, which could be considered healthy when compared to SMOKING CARCINOGENIC CIGARETTES, they probably will be sent to boot camps.

I understand how you feel.. My daughter tells us there are children in her school that are only 10 years or 11 years old vaping at the school. It is shocking that these kids are doing it at such a young age here.

The issue here is bullying, not vaping

Do the authors of this article think that we're all so weak minded that we will see this incident as caused by vaping instead of bullying?

Bullying behaviour typically stems from the family home - that is where the focus of this article should be if we are to take steps to prevent this sort of thing happening in the future

I see this news article as a very naive attempt to sway public opinion against vaping when it should be addressing the problem of bullying - which is kinda reprehensible IMHO. It certainly does not fall into the category of responsible, unbiassed reporting, for sure.

My thoughts too, relocated the victim ?

Wrong, the culprit should be the one that should be moved or exspelled.

Better to buy "Lek" a pack of thick cigars and make sure he doesn't leave until he finished all of them, that'll teach the punk some manners.

It doesn't help when a Thai minister is caught on video vaping in parliament either, does it?

And it would be interesting to know if the parents of this bully, 'Lek', are people of 'importance or wealth' wouldn't it?

Which also might explain why he wasn't expelled.

Influential parents?

Perhaps their relocation was the choice of the victim and his family and said something about the school in general.

That's true, but then again I used to smoke fags in the school bogs at age 11.

My point though was ref the bullying. That the victim was moved and relocated not the perp. Staggering.

Maybe. Or perhaps influential parents were involved? Just as likely.
