Stop it with your pathetic grandstanding. I've also made it clear on so many occasions that I not a Trump supporter. Yet people like you seem unable to comprehend such a basic concept.

Leave it to you to bring Trump into everything as well. You have the syndrome indeed.

The forum was better when your kind ran away.

With a handle of blaze master and you say I’m grandstanding lmao now that’s funny 😄

Thank you for also selling out my generation and future. We really appreciate it.

  • Yes, why not pat yourselves on the back! You guys are in total deniaL. The golden age was the generation before yours btw, a people that had balls and scruples. The boomer generation must be the most

  • Vietnam war ended in 1975, age of conscription started at 18 .... so boomers were involved in the war.

OK .... so 2 years of conscription before the war ended, and average age of Vietnam soldiers was 19.

But I thought the definition of Boomers starts in 1946 ... so plenty of time for US  oomers to serve in Vietnam, and of course Vietnamese Boomers also fought in the war.

baby boomers born 1946-64.  Called boomers due to high birth rate after close of WW2.  Had lots of friends (my age) go to Vietnam.  Couple returned in box, sadly.

Hello fellow "boomers". I think it's time for us to realise in what "golden age" most of us lived. An age where most "little people" were able to improve their financial standing. With the outlook of a financially secure old age. We diden't have to fight in any disastrous wars like generations before us had to. And we live longer than our grandparents.

We should be thankful.

The "new age" that is now dawning is more than worriesome. Generations can handle 1 or 2 major problems. But the multitude of problems at our doorstep will likely surpass the capability of humans to handle the multitude of major problems all at the same time.

I myself find being an old man is not that great. But at least I have some sort of "solace". Hopefully, I will have passed the "pearly gates" before king Chaos will reighn the world once more.

So, fellow boomers, thankfullness and gratefullness is in order. We were truly born into a historical "window of opportunity" that is rare in history.

Some boomers and subsequent generations did fight in wars in different areas of course while most of the home countries of the expats here did not suffer as much.

education systems in much of the develped world did not educate those generations after the boomers for this economy and in the US anyway, politicians enticed students to take out loans that can never be repaid.  A sad story for sure and I don't see it getting much better anytime soon.  But good luck to all here

Where have you been,VN was fought 1964 to 1974 and that is the right age for baby boomers - yeah, the Korean war was over (on paper) by the time boomers were old enough to become soldiers.

IMO the wealth inequality which exists now never existed during my childhood. Sure, executives were well paid, but never the ridiculous amounts they are paid now. No one is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

In the early 70's I was a small cog in a mining company. I paid off my house mortgage in 18 months. That is impossible for the average worker now.

I agree with the OP, we lived in a golden age where honesty, integrity and hard work were rewarded. It does make me wonder what went wrong.

Now there are BILLIONAIRES! over 500 were created in the US alone during the COVID pandemic!  nowadays, in the UK it was reported (can google it for proof) that a rich family relocated from the UK to Dubai due to the taxes or lack thereof in the Middle East!

I think you will find Vietnam was a pretty disastrous war, and a total defeat.

Unfortunately for those generations after the boomers' the education of generations was for that type economy which deteriorated greatly and didn't prepare them for today's economies.  Even those that were AI beginners, they created bots/machines that forced those educated out of a job!  Japan died with Trump's re-manufacturing plan and now has switched to all the successful economies offering services!

Yeah, Japan tried the re-manufacturing, shut down all imports of products and it destroyed the Japanese economy totally!  Now they have switched to the successes of the developed world - services and are moving ahead again!  Trump and the US could look at Japan and give up that re-manufacturing plan.  Though Trump is really too old to even see it to fruition nor does he care just so he can sit on the Throne!

Yeah whenever a negotiator gives up anything of importance just to get out of a situation i.e. Trump and the Taliban too as he must have learned from HENRY kISSINGER the art of negotiating just to get out of a situation and blame it on others.  MHO anyway as a VN vet involved in that fiasco for 10 years.

every generation has pros and cons

20sthings can work off a laptop and travel the world / make money on youtube ... that wasn't possible in previous generations

You gotta admit though, Thailand hasn't really changed in 30 years..ok not Samui etc but generally Thailand is same same and hardly anymore expensive. If you didn't look at the news, you could stay in the last century without any of this woke, jihad, immigration crap...it simply does not exist here.

But thanks for what exactly? Bleeding the world dry? Another reason to despise boomers… the three biggest a-holes currently holding the world to ransom are of this generation. Of course one cannot blame all and have many great friends and family in this age bracket, but just can’t hack that air of superiority while giving F all back. Would sooner have the woke gens front and centre and that’s saying something. Time to move over, give us all a break yeah. 😉

Yeah, it was sad the way educators abandoned math, science and civics.

Never mind when the "boomer generation" exactly started. We had 80 years of peace and a certain amount of prosperity for most. 80 years of this constellation is very rare in history.

Since recorded European history, only in some 300 years Europe was totally free of any wars. Cumulatively.

Historically, we have lived in a rare "peace bubble", combined with incresing prosperity for most.

That is the essence of this thread. I personally am grateful that I was born at the right time at the right place.

When you say "we" you don't consider all the wars in other places of the world. You and me maybe fine but there are still many millions of people suffering from continuous wars and oppression

I am 80 years old now and have never known world peace - that is distressing!!

yeah they continued teaching/training kids to come out of school and go to the factories which disappeared many years ago.  Locally all continued to expand govt offices and taxes but the average joe couldn't afford even buying a house anymore.  Sad for sure.

Yeah at least for the expats, I feel it hasn't changed all that much since the early 70's - yeah, getting around Bangkok is much easier with the trains but pollution still sucks.

Define what you mean by a "proper war"?

Ah, no. "boomer" here born in 1947. American and so Vietnam was my American generation's major war (not officially declared). I did not participate but mourn the 58K American dead as well as, other Aiilies and yes ... the Vietnamese people on both sides of their national war.

Off on a tangent here ..

According to a brief internet search, there were 2.7 - 3.1 million American military personnel, that were there, participating in the Vietnam war.  If you include the non Vietnamese militaries, there were a lot more too.

Also, between 9 and 12 million people claim to have been there, participating in the Vietnam war.

I am guessing that half of the 9 - 12 million Americans that claim/claimed they were there, cannot prove they were there, because their service there was ... dum, dum, dum, dummmmmmmm, classified "TOP SECRET"!!!!

I get a chuckle, sometimes, about those classified claims.  I had to have a TOP SECRET clearance before I could start my MOS training.   My MOS school notebook was classified SECRET with a CODE WORD.  But what I was training to be, was not classified.

What I did in Vietnam was not classified, just the product of the works was classified and nowadays, much of that has been declassified too.   (for those that don't know and get upset with upper case words,  the words CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET, and TOP SECRET, when properly used to classify a document, are always written in upper case font)

OK, for you so noted. Historically it involves those born as a result of the "Baby Boom" brought on after the ending of WW II (that would be the end in both Europe and Asian fighting).

You can say that again, leveraging pensions off of the backs of the next two generations to come the baby boomers have done very well for themselves. Sadly the young generations to come will have to pay off the good life had by all the baby boomers.

Some of the people I worked with, from late 1970 through early 1973, had a tour or two, in Vietnam starting in 1960!
