They don't    so why not call an election  his term is expired  he is mega popular and would win no contest  (there is no contest)

They have no reason to bend to what Putin asks.

Why not have Russia be placed under temporary UN control to facilitate the election of what might be described as a more "competent" and "democratic" government, since they started this <deleted&gt

Putin and Putin's puppet Trump want fake elections for Ukraine just like in Russia that Russia can totally control. Only fools don't understand that.

Forget the constitution or martial law, its a democratic state and its own people have said they do not want elections while a war is going on, that also goes for the opposing political parties.

Two of Zelenskyy’s main political rivals, Petro Poroshenko and Yulia Tymoshenko, have publicly rejected the idea of wartime elections as impractical and illegitimate. Ukraine’s vibrant civil society has also voiced its opposition to the return of elections before a peace agreement has been signed. Meanwhile, a new opinion poll conducted in February 2025 found that 63 percent of Ukrainians are against holding any national votes until the war with Russia is over.

A democratic state under military law without a constitution or elections ?

because the population wants that ? well ok then.

Its had elections and its own citizens have clearly stated in the majority that they do not want any more until Russia signs a peace deal or the war is over. Do you understand that?

I think that it is a great idea.

But only if the UN administer Russia as well.

Peace at last.

Are you suggesting some kind of plot? Given that the Constitution was ratified in 1996, that's some long range planning! Very impressive.

 You copied that only. 😳

It makes just as much sense. Better yet, the commission can run the US. Trump is too stupid.

A random condo board would govern better than Trump. Trump doesn't even have a clue about what's going on anymore. Everything is delegated to extremists who want to smash everything similar to the Maoist cultural revolution and y'all should know how that turned out. He's checked out. He's destroying the USA probably permanently.

No I'm suggesting that military law supersedes "the constitution" and everything else   and as such Zelensky can do whatever he wants  including calling an election ..which he wont.

You're suggesting that? On what basis?

No not really at least  Putin called elections and won  even during "the war"

On the basis that under military law  there is no need to call elections ??

If you think Putin holds actual elections, we have nothing further to discuss. Enjoy your life in Maga Cloud Cuckooland.

Under the Ukrainian constitution, elections are forbidden. How does that translate to the Canadian constitution doesn't exist or isn't valid?

But the constitution is suspended due to military law which supersedes everything so Zelensky can just call an election or not (not)

or do whatever he wants in reality.

On what basis do you say "the constitution is suspended"?

It is more likely that Ukraine's constitution states that national elections are suspended when martial law is in effect (under the rules contained in the constitution).

I'm a betting man... I'll wager you have not read Ukraine's constitution... neither have I.

My guess is a much more reasonable one than yours.

Good idea.  UN peace-keeper are the closest thing to neutral.  That is sanity.

If the UK/EU try to put NATO troops in Ukraine and call them "peacekeepers" Russian will call them "enemy-combatants" and they'll be targets. That in insanity and a deliberate provocation to start WWIII.

Does it hurt when you think?  Perhaps that's why you don't bother with it.

Elections in which he allowed the opposition the right to campaign freely and the press to fairly cover their campaign. Just so long as they didn't call what was going on in Ukraine a war.

Elections in Russia :cheesy:

Putin does best in his Art of Procrastination. He is not a serious peace maker. Ultimately the Russian people or the military will kicked him out as the economy suffocate.
