Paetongtarn's asset woes: Scandal plagues PM with new allegations

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra finds herself embroiled in another scandal as allegations surface concerning her spouse’s reported failure to declare all assets.

The controversy centres on the failure to report a hefty 1.6 million baht cash profit from corporate shares sold by husband Pitaka Suksawat. This omission could lead to possible legal actions and has already sparked intense media scrutiny.

The potential fallout could be severe. A formal petition might soon be lodged with the Constitutional Court to impeach Paetongtarn if these allegations hold water.

This echoes the fate of her predecessor, Srettha Thavisin, who was dethroned due to similar indiscretions. Being the daughter of Thaksin Shinawatra, her political ties invite additional attention to her administration and its moral standing.

Further complicating matters, Paetongtarn faces questioning over an eye-watering 218 million baht in allegedly evaded tax. This figure relates to 4.4 billion baht in corporate share profits supposedly linked to promissory transactions with her family.

People’s MP Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn has urged Thailand's Revenue Department to dive deeper, considering accusations of potential tax evasion strategies attributed to her leadership.

As the dust settles, the saga around Paetongtarn’s alleged asset concealments could have larger implications for her political career and public perception.

Whether these charges materialise into formal sanctions remains to be seen, yet the ripple effect has undeniably intensified scrutiny over her and her administration. How this impacts her premiership and future leadership credibility will be closely observed by political analysts and the public alike.

Pita owned a measly couple thousand shares in some company and couldn’t become PM because of that. The daughter of Thaksin did become PM however, even though she and the Sinawatra clan own god knows what and are very probably hiding billions and billions of baht in assets.
Hmm, does that seem fair? I smell a rat somehow.

Looks as if nearly all highly placed Politicians and people in authority are well off financially

Pita couldn't become PM because the senate blocked him by refusing to vote for him.

He was cleared of the media shareholding charge.

And why did the senate refuse to vote for him?

Because they didn't want his party running the country?

The CC will find no reason to impeach her. The status quo must be maintained and the CC and EC are there to make sure of this.

Go after her with the same vengeance that you went after Pita, or else just come out and admit that the system is rigged, it favors the elite, the youth are not wanted, and the dinosaurs will remain in power forever, if we have our way. Sure we'll put up a young person to represent the dinosaurs every now and then, but it's all the same.

It seems that Shinawatras family is above all lows... As they claim everybody is treated equal, than now they have to remove her from office too as they did with Setthra and others.. But again this clan seems to own Thailand and will be protected by their bribes

and because they were told to not vote him in by their military masters. So much for free and fair elections.

He was banned from politics and his party disbanded.

AS long as the envelopes keep getting passed out. There will always be something to get that family to dig deeper into their pockets to clear the messes. But make no mistake, Thaksin will make it all disappear. He will not have his daughter be forced to flee Thailand like he did.

Rubish !!

The final tally was 324 votes in favour, 182 against and 199 abstentions, among the 705 members participating. The Move Forward Party (MFP) leader needed 375 votes — a simple majority of the 749 combined House and Senate seats — to win the office.

they DID VOTE  but he did not get the votes to win  nobody blocked any thing

Well, this is why no Thai government can survive its term... because they are all corrupt and compromised one way or the other. You can't rise to such levels without being hopelessly criminal... which is a source of ammo for your haters. The cycle keeps going round and round and only one person holds the keys to power here... and we know who that is.

The 199 that DIDN'T VOTE had no effect on the outcome at all. obviously.

the point is there was a vote nobody was BLOCKED  the poster was incorrect

2019 – A new Senate, composed of 250 military-appointed members, was sworn in in the aftermath of the general elections held on that year. 2024 – After the Senate military-appointed terms expire, there will be an indirectly voted by the candidates from 20 professional and social groups to 200 members.

If you remember back in 2019 the senate had 250 military -appointed members, you could say who ever got in would have been out voted by the 250 military appointed members.

With Pita it was these votes that probably kept him out.

But now after 2924 the military appointed members terms expire, now they will be an indirectly voted by candidates from 20 professional and social groups too 200.

its obvious you have no idea     when pita was nominated for PM there was a vote the senate was included in the vote  Pita lost the vote and did not become PM     Now the senate term has expired  and will not be voting again for PM,   the senate can not vote for pm again it was only because of the junta that the senate was included

(now they will be an indirectly voted by candidates from 20 professional and social groups too 200)  this incorrect
