Friends and family don't whinge particularly.  Work mates do a bit but that's normal.

I don't know if Thai's are in general because I can't speak Thai but the Thai's I do know are known to have  a bit of a whinge.

This site is by nature is a place to have a whinge so it is not a representation of the normal world. 

Nice click-bait topic from someone who should know better. Why do you assume all foreigners are the same and that what you say applies to all? Many expats live harmoniously in their local environment and get along with the locals without any drama. Sounds like you are living in the scumbag places where you get moron tourists, rather than expats that just want to live out their lives somewhere cool.

The westerners on here and the ones you're likely meeting are older, the Thais you're interacting with are younger.

Most Thais I know either want to be whiter than me, or are whiter than me.  Even more hysterical, most whites want to lay out in the sun and turn as brown as Thais or even browner.

Thailand: corruption, lack of safety, lack of protection and accountability, cheap

The West: a lot less corruption, far safer, a lot more protection and accountability, expensive

 

It's quite simply about the pros and cons of each.  You cannot have a chilled out, cheap and fun society while following millions of strict laws and constantly stressing about everything you do.  Equally, you cannot have a very functional society where rules are followed to the letter and strict standards are kept while having fun all the time.

 

As a foreigner, with foreign money and other benefits, you have a false idea of what Thailand is really like.  You have a closer idea of what Thailand is like for the wealthy elite.  If you had to live more like a regular Thai, were disabled, or were the victim of some sort of horrific crime or industrial accident, you would probably feel differently.

A lot of Westerners come from a culture of moaning about stuff, but it normally comes from a place of being used to wanting to make things better.

While I'm sure Thais do whinge, they no doubt do it in a lot more of a low-key way.  One difference is that Thais can bottle up their whinges and then explode.  With foreigners, it's more like a slow puncture.

He sounds so angry, and also a little deluded.  Thais who get surgery generally want to look Korean, not European.  And they buy Western cars if they are expensive to show how wealthy they are.

 

I can imagine him drunk in a bar walking up to people and angrily telling them they're this that and the other.

 

It's interesting how he tries so hard to put across a certain image, while criticising others for their choice of image.  I assume that they make him feel inferior in some way.

Because we are achievers.

When I lived in Grand Cayman everyone was always moaning, the locals included. Then one fine day, out of the blue a hurricane hit. It destroyed all our houses. There was no water. No food. No electricity. We had to sleep in the office, whilst we salvage our personal belongings from our wrecked houses.

 

Oddly enough, everyone who was ignoring each other started talking to each other, helping each other, being nice to each other. No more complaining, only laughing, helping, chatting.

 

After everything was fixed, back to moaning and ignoring everyone again.

My Thai  wife is pro Thai ga theeuy! But she is anti Falang ga theeuy . Go figure!

Because some of the foreigners here are on a budget. 

 

They've made the wrong decision, coming here to live with little money.

They can barely survive on the funds they receive each month.

the best part is he refuses to learn Thai properly because it's a primitive language and won't button up his shirt out of respect for the culture but then he won't take off uncle Som Chai's magic amulet. Very confused by this obvious hypocrisy of his.
