China stuns world with stainless steel tech once thought impossible

Featured Replies

In a stunning display of ingenuity, Chinese scientists have shattered long-held assumptions about materials used in advanced defense technology.

They’ve developed a hypersonic missile component using stainless steel, a material previously deemed unsuitable for such high-stress applications. This breakthrough promises not only to cut costs but also underscores China’s remarkable engineering capabilities, marking a major step forward in the world of aerospace and defense.

Any chance these Chinese scientists can share their stunning discovery with their hinge manufacturers??? My 2 years old cabinet hinge from China 🇨🇳 has seen better days.

I simply can't gloss over it like you have sorry. No matter the other uses it may have it was developed primarily for causing death and destruction.    When will we stop.

Sweet more death tools for humans to kill each other with.

Whatever its uses may be, and had you bothered to read past the headlines,  you would see that it has a wide range of potential usefulness, it does show how sophisticated chinese technology has become. And it gives the lie to the widespread belief that china is basically a parasite and thief when it comes to advanced technology.

Instead you prefer to gloss over the fact that the Chinese economy has a formidably advanced technological base.

Soon you will be able to shut your cabinet doors at hypersonic speeds!

Unfortunately with us humans that’s generally the driving factor with innovation let’s hope #1 it’s true and #2 it can be used in more beneficial ways.i for one would never sell the Chinese short to do so in my opinion is a grave mistake.

American automakers once scoffed at Japanese cars.

As a famous economist once remarked " Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."

OP could be a CCP troll or is as gullible as Spidermike when it comes to parroting CCP talking points.  Or maybe just not very smart.  In any event I don't see how the world is now "stunned" when the news came out the middle of last year.  Noted at the time  "The paper does not say what stage the missile is at, or if it has undergone testing."

Anyone citing jasondeegan.com as a source should be summarily considered unserious.

I guess if you live in thailand you should align with china, lol

white people are weird

The linked propaganda piece in the OP is meaningless unless they specify the grade of stainless, and why it's cheaper and/or better than tungsten steel (as if that's the only material used in those applications).

Nobody has ever said that using stainless in that (or any other) application is impossible.

China know nothings, absolute joke, the West would still be living in caves.

Jike those American automobile execs who dismissed the threat posed by the Japanese auto industry.

Apparently, you both think it's wise to have contempt for the competition.

No, you're just suddenly sharing pro-China news because you hate Trump so much that you want to support a nation that you consider to be his enemy.

You're not in the slightest bit subtle.

How does revealing how strong the competiton is translate to support? How does denigrating China's capabilities help the US to strategize effectively?

It's so obvious.  You can deny it all you want, but it's very clear what you are doing.

Your hatred for Trump, your patterns of pretty much posting only anti-Trump topics, the fact that you just suddenly randomly post this while America and China are in a trade war/dispute having shown no previous interest in China's technology developments, the wording that you chose to use from the article, the choice of posting in "political soapbox" when the topic is not even political.

There's so much here that tells on you.

People aren't as dumb as you think they are.

Yes, these weapons will soon cause death & destruction in Kiev, as Vladimir Putin & the Russian forces desperately try & salvage something out of their  Ukrainian invasion.  China being Russia's biggest ally, supplier & bankroller. North Korea & IRAN being the  other two suppliers of Putin.

Rest Easy; Vladimir Putin, him good guy, according to MAGA narrative.

As usual. Shooting the messenger. Making it all about me. Why don't you offer a rebuttal based on China's economy? It looks to me that the reason for  your deflection is that you've got nothing.

With high regard to Chinese scientific and engineering skills, especially the ability to copy build on stolen borrowed technology, "stunning display of ingenuity" is a MSM soundbite from your article.

They provide no background or references but the author does note  "I remember a time when I was working on a tech project, and we were constrained by both material costs and availability.

For clarity.  It's a 3 layer system with aerogel then an ultra high temperature ceramic UHTC layer on stainless steel. These are all technologies previously worked on by NASA’s Hypersonic Materials and Structures research and DARPA.

A 2020 paper in Progress in Materials Science (“Thermal protection systems for hypersonic vehicles,” DOI: 10.1016/j.pmatsci.2019.100573) discusses global TPS designs, noting that UHTC and insulation layers are universal strategies, adapted uniquely by different nations.

Undoubtedly, the Chinese work to make unstoppable nukes is good but not unique and not stunning.
