I rarely see them in CM.

I can think of a few shops over the years with Indians working in them. Maybe they have citizenship? They seemed to be working alone so I'm not sure how they pulled that off. There's one Indian restaurant with Indians working in it. Not sure how that works either. Anyways numbers are tiny at best.

I know this isn't the gist of the article, but how does an Indian man own an apartment building in Bangkok?

Many are Thai citizens with Indian heredity and therefore can own buildings in Sukhumvit area or anywhere in Thailand.

Their parents / grandparents are Thai citizens going back several generations.

Keep in mind that many Indians born in Thailand have Indian heritage through their Indian parents / grandparents having Thai citizenship, often going back several generations.

Yes I met a doctor like this once many years ago. I even asked because it was curious to me. Said his family had been in the country for a hundred years or something. I think most of them are down south by the ocean on trade routes.

Either you don’t get about much or have low observation skills.

I think you're just making up numbers. They give citizenship to how many people per year? I can't get a clear figure but it needs to be signed off in the Royal Gazette apparently. I think the numbers are in the hundreds per year so hundreds of thousands of Indians seems unlikely to  me. Whatever though post numbers if you have them.

It is not about giving citizenship now.  They have been here for generations.

Guess you can’t remember when most of Thai bank branches were guarded by Indians sleeping across their doorstep with shotguns.

I've never seen an Indian in Khon Kaen, Udon or Nong Khai.

I have seen them in all those places.

I have walked the entire Old City. Very few Indians. Not seem them in Isaan.

Something does not ring true in this story. No man starts pulling a woman's hair and attacking her, just because he's had a beer.

Richard is right, we need to hear the Indian man's side of the story.

Most likely she cheated on him.

"they had been drinking beer together"

Huh, I wonder if that could have been a factor?

Lots of domestics and friend-on-friend attacks seem to have this as part of the story.

In Pattaya and with a Thai partner half his age? Of course mate.

It's possible and it's not realistic for you to suggest it's not possible.

There's an Indian restaurant in Nimman I go to once a year or so and there's always Indians in there. Maybe some taylor shops come to mind I saw many years ago by the old market along the Ping river.  Otherwise I wouldn't know where even a single Indian owned shop is.

Outside of Chiang Mai in the north never once saw anything Indian. Mae Sai has some Indian looking people which seem to be in Myanmar. Indians are unicorns in the north from experience.

More than a couple of Indian temples too.  A bunch of people go to each.

400,000 Indians living in Thailand.

where's the Indian temple? I may have passed it before but nothing comes to mind.

Wow, you are really out of touch.

Half of Sukhumvit is owned by Thai-Indians. A lot of hotels are too. There are literally hundreds of thousands of them.

I can't vouch for the accuracy, but this one says 65,000 have citizenship and 400,000 Indians "have settled" in Thailand.  Make of that what you will...

Thai Indians are Thai people with full or partial Indian ancestry. About 65,000 Indian Thais have full Thai citizenship, and around 400,000 persons of Indian origin settled in Thailand mainly in urban cities.

Edit:  I just figured the Thai news would refer to them as "Thai".  Apparently, not so.

That's a big assumption. Many are Thai citizens from birth. Their parents / grandparents holding Thai citizenship from birth and with long-term history.

Question: Do you really believe the Thai media / Thai news services does any such check?

Never been to Sukhumvit but I'll take your word for it. Half of hotels in America in owned by Indians now too. 😂

They must have settled in Bangkok during some migration in the past, because I don't think Thailand is handing out citizenship to Indians to open hotels in Bangkok these days.
